Geneva: BMW X5 Updated For 2010

Styling, engine and gearbox tweaks for BMW SUV

The BMW X5 has received a Geneva facelift. See if you can spot what they've done...

It took us a while too: It's got bigger air dams on the front for better airflow to the engine, there are bigger exhausts at the rear and jazzier light clusters.

Apparently most of the changes are under the bonnet. This facelift is all about getting the X5 to cover ground faster, while simultaneously (er...) protecting the planet.

Every engine receives a power hike, most notably the xDrive50i (xDrive48i replacement) - which receives an extra 52bhp, bringing the total to 402bhp.

Each X5 now comes with BMW's 8-speed gearbox as standard - 1) so you can tell your mates your car is better than theirs because you've got an extra gear 2) it's smoother and 3) it's better for the environment.

As you'd expect from BMW - if you're getting more power, they'd like more money. Each model is roughly £2000 more than the one it replaces.

Alright for what it is.

It's a long way behind the Range Rover for appeal though, a long way.

Apart from a RR this is still the best looking SUV you can buy. I like it. Shame they're dropping the N/A V8.

Agree it's not as nice as a Rangie, but the diesel one is more than £20k cheaper.

A better comparison is looking at the Disco/Merc ML/Q7, where the X5 stands up a little better.

I like X5's but everytime i see the back end of one its low bumper reminds me of a baby with a full nappy, strange.

You didn't mention it's a long way behind the Rangie in actually being able to go off road too.

Love it!

Would buy this before any Land Rover product (sorry can't take the risk on reliability) frown

Not my thing but the x5 was always one of the better looking 4x4's. Now the bodywork is to messed about with and fussy, and I dont know what the hell is going on with those running boards!!!

Wasn't a fan of the look of the first generation X5.

Current one and this (new) one I like.

I like the new X5, I think it's a good looking SUV and I particularly like the large engined versions. But 8 speed gearbox?
