Matter of interest
has anyone cut open their silencers and repacked them.?
If you did, did you reweld the opening or construct a plate so you can go and repack easier in the future??
Any photos??

thanks Dom

Did this about 3 odd years ago, make sure you have easy access - it will not be the last time you repack them! Mine are fixed with M6 bolts.

Cut opentop and bottom, pull the old stuff out:

Unpacked:

Cover plate (1 of 4):

Repacked:

Refitted:

This shows the rivetted version, used ally rivets, ask LuckyP what happend. Next I welded in tabs, tapped and used M6 button heads.

When I cut mine open I cut a much longer hole than that but be careful as there are bulkheads inside about 3" from each end.

Even after all that work it still only came down to 105db so I'm still looking for a better solution.

After repacking, and with the Jetex on the back I got 101db. This actually sounds quieter than it measures.

I was stupid enough not to protect the packing completely with either stainless wool or Knitmesh, consequently the packing blew out double quick.

I still have a £100 roll of Bath Potters furnace insulation FOC if any body wants to collect it.
