just to let you know both of my 993' wing mirrors and rear light were stolen when parked up near Stoke Newington in London Looks like a professional job as no other damage done to the car..............so if you are offered anything of this (mirrirs are polar silver), ask them if they have been borrowed from Stoke Newlington in london!!
anybody with simialr experience

Scum.

They need to be hung upside down by their ankles and taken to with a bit of 2 by 4 to the soles of their feet.

Hope your car is back in good shape soon.

at the risk of rubbing salt in the wound, how much is it to replace both mirrors on a 993? My friend has had hers nicked in Battersea twice and I know she was fuming. now she's just fitted other (non-993) wing mirrors instead

Be thankful they didn't damage the bodywork while they were at it.

VERY common in London unfortunately, and something that has been going on for years. My old 964 had had its (cup) mirrors stolen before I owned it, thats going back to 1999 now... At the time a set of 2nd hand mirrors and repaint cost the owner around £500.

Happened to a 993 just down my road last week too, the other two are fine, for now...

Can you get to the screws from the outside of the car?
Likely to be found on a veedub, or an older 911
Maybe someone should invent removable mirrors, like the old removable car stereos.

Are there any mods/new screws etc. that anyone has found to make the mirrors harder to steal (I also park my 993 in London regularly)?

I would fill the allen socker head that holds the mirrors on with araldite or something like it

At least then they cant be undone quickly

Rear lights are a problem as you need to undo them to change a bulb

Trouble is if they cant undo the screws they wrench them off out of spite and destroy the door.
