It is very very easy

the "horse shoe" surround is clipped in. Pull it from the top (by the air vents) and it will unclip and come away.

once that is removed you will see the retaining screws holding the PCM in place. Undo and remove.

not entirely true, it has 4 5mm allen screws , 2 either side that when turned they hold back the clamps that hold it in place.. after you remove the horseshoe thingy

Hi
Thanks for Help, but;
I don't know if mine is normal or not but i don't seem to have a horse shoe surround which you are telling me to remove!
I assume it is like a normal size surround like what is around the normal din size stereo? (about 3 or 4mm thick)
I have what i think is a double din size unit with a drinks holder above then the vent.
Do you mean the surround with the switches/vents in?
Thanks in advance

the surround with the switches in pulls of along with strip along top of vents hence the horseshoe type trim... if you get something thin at the bottom edge you can pull it away from the dash but try not to prise off against dash as you'll mark it ..the vents stay in place along with the drinks holder

Hi,
Thanks for advise,
To remove the pcm2 unit i had to remove the horse shoe surround with switches in and then remove the air vent by pulling down the two clips/catches through the vent gaps, this enabled the vent to be removed and thus the pcm2/drinks holder.
You can then part the surround from the unit by pressing in the 4 clips on the side and pulling the unit through.

You didn't manage to get any pics while you were dismantling bits did you? I've been thinking of binning the PCM unit and replacing it with something a bit more up to date/useful for a while now. Btw, what are you putting in its place?

Hi,
Sorry no i did not, but it is straight forward though if you mean removing the unit.
I removed it to replace the phone sim tray that was faulty which i did and now its back in working.
Not the easiest job in the world, a little bit tricky!! But done now

To pull the PCM surround off do you pull the vents or the horse shoe surround itself? Mine seems very tight around the bottom on either side i.e the cigarette lighter and wiper speed knob.

Can anyone help!

I have removed the horse shoe trim, I can now see two torx bolts behind the trim at either side of the bottom corners. I can see deeper into the dashboard two torx nuts bolting I to bare, silver metal roughy 2/3rds of the way up the system and two torx bolts either side of the cup holders. Which ones should I be removing, unscrewing please? I have PCM2.
