New Engine And Styling For 2010 Audi TT

New nose is no news, but a new engine and 'sport' mode are more interesting

It's mid-life facelift time for the Audi TT, with a subtle nip and tuck to the styling, an all-new engine option and a 'Sport' mode.

The most significant changes are under the bonnet (or under some bonnets - the TDI, 1.8 TFSI, TTS and TTRS remain unchanged), where the 197bhp 2.0 TFSI and the 3.2-litre V6 have been dropped in favour of a 208bhp, 258lb ft 2.0-litre turbo four (as seen in the Golf GTI).

The new motor can get the TT from rest to 62mph in 5.6secs, provided it's equipped with the S-tronic twin-clutch gearbox.

On cars with magnetic ride control, the new Sport button gives you the option of an even stiffer damper set-up for the car, a sharper throttle response, less power assistance for the steering and an extra sporty tone to the exhaust.

As for the visual tweaks, there are some marginally sharper lines on the front bumper, bigger front air intakes, a gloss-black grille, a wider rear diffuser panel and chrome fog lamps. All TTs now also get the near-ubiquitous LED daytime running lights.

There have been minor fiddlings on the inside, too. With some new aluminium and gloss-black inserts as well as new nougat brown, titanium grey and garnet red cabin colour options.

I was quite interested in the Audi TT, but no V6 = no sale!

V6 quattro was about the only remaining reason it stood out above the VW range. Now that's gone.

5.6 secs to 60 seems optimistic with 208bhp, even with the nice gearbox, no?

In fairness, Evo swears by the 2 litre.

The V6 is heavy and thirsty. The 4 pot turbo outperforms it and is cheaper to run. THe V6 historically also has much worse depreciation. So I cant really see why you'd want it.

Forced induction engines produce far less CO2 and get better fuel economy than a similarly powerful, larger N/A engine, so the V6 had to go..... Also, it makes the car more nose heavy, so i can see why they would drop it... still love the v6 in my A3 though!

Does the Audi V6 not sound nice then?

Agreed - I had a ride in a V6 DSG just last week and all though it wasnt that fast it was very smooth and sounded beautiful - I would go for a V6

But now thats its been dropped what will happen to the value of the V6 ones?

Gearchange times can knock acceleration figures down quite a lot from what I've observed when comparing normal vs twin clutch boxes. With a normal gearbox that 0-60 time would be 6.2 secs at a guess and remember then that the first gear time would be greatly enhanced due to 4wd off the line, given enough transmission abuse.

Now I can normally spot even minor facelifts... but I am really struggling here. Can someone please point out what's different?

I test drove a lightly used TTRS the other day, I honestly can't remember being so underwhelmed by a car I'm afraid.

Wow, what an ignorant comment.

The 4cyl was always the better option in the TT. Cheaper, more tuneable, better balanced. The V6 was for people who like low-down grunt rather than screaming top-end and for Americans who demanded an auto because changing gear is too much effort.
