High Mileage Renault Laguna Tourer, Bite or Run.
Discussion
I quite like how they look and my neighbour has offered to sell me their company one for what I think to be a good price. It has 97K on the clock on a 06 plate for £3500 but looks very tidy inside and out. I've read most of the shocking stories of Renault unreliability, so quite hesitant and just asking PH for alternatives or to take a punt.
See how far he told you to run?
It wasn't far enough.
We have/had one as a pool car.
It would have been better at being a pool.
Hateful thing, with the temperament of a pre-menstrual French woman who has just caught her tit in a rusty fridge door.
When it started it ran like a dog.
IF you could get it to negotiate the parking ramp without throwing a fit it steered like a ( I give up I cannot think of anything to use here, it was that bad).
It was biege.
The only thing it could do was motorway miles. When it felt like it.
Had some wheezy 2.0/2.2 diesel lump in it that felt about 15 years out of date - My old '92 1.9 405 gtd was better.

Even at that mileage, that's a very decent price for an 06 Laguna Estate.
As it's a company car, it's likely it will have been serviced regularly and will have done most of those miles on the motorway.
If your neighbour seems like a decent guy who looks after his cars and doesn't drive like a idiot, then it might be worth taking a punt.
Assume it's a diesel, so worth asking about the usual modern diesel engine problems (DMF, EGR, DPF) to see if any of those have reared their head.

We looked at these for a while before deciding to avoid.
Looks expensive for the mileage.
The unanimous verdict was that these are horrendously unreliable, more negative stories than any other car I have ever posted about.
Thanks for the replies. So Renault crossed off my list and looking at alternatives.Looks expensive for the mileage.

I wouldn't walk away so fast..
Renault do have a habit of churning out cars that let people down - but not ALL of them. My missus has driven Renaults for years and I used her old Scenic to get to Italy and back which it did with no problems. Sure, the elecric windows can play up and it rattle a bit, but my BMW isn't exactly shy regards it's needs and wants when in for a service.
I'd take a punt at the right price and go in with your eyes open.

My dad has only ever sold one car that I can think of through total exasperation at being unable to solve mysterious electrical faults...
Wouldn't be a Laguna by any chance or are you just adding to the suspense?
oh yeah, should have mentioned that I guess
I hate to think how much he spent on trying to sort it, we had diagnostics machines and got nothing, took it to renault, they got nothing, but charged loads to tell him that, then wanted to adopt the "lets change a bit at a time till we get it right" attitude... after the third or forth it was "no ta"

The fact of the matter is that the mere act of entering into any form of transaction involving a Laguna automatically throws that person into a parallel world which knows no boundaries of expenditure. You are stripped of any mortal power in this altered state as it is controlled by alien electronics that endlessly snap at your cheque book to help the evil Laguna beat you once again. Don’t think for one moment you’ve bought a cheap car as this is futile, there is no value in a Laguna, particularly for cars produced between 2000-2004, as Renault at this point, for reasons known only unto them, decided to declare war on their customers. They used an army of Laguna’s to further destroy their own reputation over vehicle electronics and the field of battle was to be the service department. There are many worn torn traders who will tell you to stay away from the one they call the Laguna, these cars are basically evil and were only produced as an ingenious instrument to extract cash from unsuspecting humans who thought they were buying a chic French family saloon.

Is must have been.
If I was drinking coffee I probably wouldn't have spat it over the actual keyboard, but you get the idea.
