Thinking of going to this the week after next.
13-15 May.
Can tickets be purchased at the gate ?

If you were spectating out along the circuit, at Brunchen or Adeneau for example do you need a ticket there?

Whats the crowds like and I suppose it's way too late for accommodation?

What time / day does it start

Any other advice appreciated.

Tickets at the gate, no problem.
Tickets are required at "public" viewing points. It's 24-29 euros/day. If you stay past midnight Saturday, you're supposed to get a new ticket for Sunday. Ticket for all 4 days is 50-something.
They reckon that they get 250,000 spectators for the event. Parking along the public roads is very tight. The grounds themselves are heaving with tents, furniture, barbecues, hi-fi systems, millions of containers of beer, and jolly specators.
Qualifying for the 24 Hr will be Thursday evening and Friday afternoon.
Race itself runs 15:00 Sat - 15:00 Sun.

There are other support races as part of the weekend.

Bring some bikes to get around on, once parked up leave your car there as parking can be hell unless you blag some officials type passes or are doing some demo's on the track pre main race wink

Great event & a nice atmosphere, lots of drunkeness with little or no hassle

Thanks for the info. Ive booked a €43 euro return with ryanair from kerry airport in Ireland so no bike! Looking forward to it. I'm specifically going with three purposes, one to see Walther Rohl in the standard RS, two to see the hybrid Gt3R, and finally I've a mad idea I might do the race next year.

Before you book that ticket: I believe that WR will not be racing, owing to a back problem.
He was scheduled to race the road car in the 24, and did drive it in VLN 1 in March, but will not, I was informed, be in the 24. I believe that his place will be taken by Patrick Simon, a very experienced, fast pilot at the 'ring.

It's not a mad idea, but if you did do it, you would have raced at the circuit prior to the 24, right?

Yes, I would do a few races there before hand. Thanks for you help. Am trying to get accommodation now, trying Eddy Mathay in Adenau where I usually stay. Mad idea contemplating doing the 24hrs but who knows ? I've neen racing and rallying since 1975 and at this stage just doing the races I like. I'd put together a team and off we go. Use either an early 911 with a 3.5 engine or a 3 series BMW.

I'd check the regs on the eligibility for these. According toa chap in Germany I've been spekaing to, they're changing the rules to only allow invited entries in vehicles over 10 years old. The Manta 400 and Audi 200 Quattro that have run for years are in this time, as is Eklund in an old Saab but not sure about the raft of E30s and the like that usually make up much of the grid. Will be a shame if it does change, its a unique event as is and well worth the trip.

As for this year's trip, make sure you have decent walking boots. Last year we bought our tickets from the small office near the Dorint entrance, opposite the bank.
