Hi,

Is there a big difference between the Harmon Kardon speaker system and the standard system in a BMW? Does anyone know the cost of upgrading also?

Thanks.

It's quite a bit better than the standard system, but the standard system is also pretty bad (I went from an e46 with standard audio to one with HK).

It was a £750 option new iirc. Upgrading is a PITA and I wouldn't recommend it. The cost of buying all the bits would go a lot further if you were to buy some aftermarket kit.

HK is ok, but nowadays you can get upgrades of speakers, amps for very little money whoch will blow away the HK.

Hmm, that's a pain as the car i'm looking at is ideal other than having the standard audio. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, i think i'll look at upgrading but thought the HK was one of the better audios. Is there any you'd recommended taking a look at?

Thanks again.

The HK is a significant improvement over the standard system, however an aftermarket one will be a significant improvement again over the HK one. Not having it wouldn't put me off buying the car.
You can retrofit the HK system and they often appear on ebay, however I wouldn't bother fitting it. If you are going to the expense and effort you can get better.

Cheers. I'm going to see the car tomorrow so if I buy it I'll take a look at an aftermarket unit. If anyone has any suggestions for some systems out there that are worth a look (which don't cost an arm and a leg!) please let me know. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again for the replies.
