Mornin' all,

I was looking underneath a Mk1 3.2 cab at the weekend, as you do, and was very surprised at the size of the undertay. The large plastic undertray was rivetted to an even larger metal pressing, and even then to remove it it seemed that you also have to remove the trim tabs etc around the front wheels.

This seems an extraordinary amount of work if you just wanted to change the oil, say. Am I seeing right or has this particular undertray been modified? The metal undertray didn't even have a uniform set of fasteners, and had two very big torx-type bolts that seem related to the suspension.

It's certainly completely different to those fitted to mk 4 Golfs - which is fair enough given their propensity to drop off.

So what's going on guys? What does a 3.2 TT undertray normally look like? smile

The VR6 engine in the 3.2 TT has a very low sump, so the undertray is a big heavy metal jobby to protect it.

Normal TT just has a plastic one, as with the golf/A3. All those fixes rust and then the middles rip out, and it can take the entire service time just to get the undertray off. There are a number of T30 torks bolts and two very large m14 or m16 (cant remeber) multi spline bolts.

If you droping down on your back for a home oil change, enjoy.

Thanks for that, that's interesting.
