I know this has been covered and covered but can someone please tell me the pipe dimensions for sleeving.

Stainless steel I presume.

Ext diameter?

Length?

Copper grease?

How do you get them out when needed.

Thanks a lot

Hi Tim M

The external diam. is 51mm the length that I got was 2No @ 400mm and 1No @600mm (use this one to tap in the new one's and to tap them out if required).

To reduce the weight in the cans try and go for the thinest tube you can get 1mm would be fine.

I know Demon Tweaks sell the pipe they are based in Wrexham but will deliver to anyplace in the UK.

Hope this is of some help

Mathew, do the tubes (51mm or 2") stay in due to a snug fit?

Merlin Motorsport do 2" tubes (steel) at £7.55 each! Bargin... Just not Stainless though...

Thats correct they do stay in due to the snug fit.

I would not use mild steel though as it will rust and look crap.

Try and find the SS pipe, I was very lucky as I did not have to pay for my tube so the job cost me nothing to do just my time.

If you are unable to source the tube I will try and dig out Demon Tweaks Tel No and post it on this site.

If I remember I think they are only asking £15.00 / m length for the pipe anyway and its the correct tube.

We've got tons of the stuff in stock at Carbon Can Co.

Give me a ring with the lengths you need and I'll do a Mega deal.

Thank you, this is just the information I needed.

One other thing, is it best to take the cans off to hammer the pipe in?

I'll get on to Demon Tweaks or Simon at the CC Co and get some piping.

Tim, yes take the cans off when hammering in the new tube otherwise you are hammering against the rubber bushes and joins at the manifolds etc - 1 it makes it harder to get the pipes in and 2 it wont do them any good!

As for removing, this can become impossible if you leave them in to long, the problem is that the water/heat etc causes the metals to bond together and the stainless tube to expand through the perforations of the original tube

Best bet is to keep tha standard cans for track days and get some others to sleeve (or get CCC ones) then you have the best of both worlds and the swap over is very easy and quick - downside is it costs a couple of hundred pounds though!!

Mathew, are you sure the diameter is 51mm? I had a quick look last night, and the exhaust opening measured closer to 55mm.....
??

that is correct but the pipe tapers in on the inside of the can.

Decision: I am going to sleeve first and then get CC cans if I am unhappy with the result.

Demon Tweeks have 51mm OD pipe, 1.2mm thick. It costs £14.97 incl VAT per metre. Don't know the delivery cost yet.

Their Number is 01978 663063

Thanks for the help.

Fitted my sleeves at weekend.
I didn't notice any change in the noise, just perhaps a bit more popping on over run. Sounded a bit tinny at idle too...

Not what I expected at all!

Silly question time, do you "drive" in the sleeves from the front or the rear of the can? Any other tips before i tackle the job at the weekend

Tony,

when my cans were sleeved many moons ago, they put little screws through the sleeves at the inlet end of the can to stop to the sleeves coming out.

Cheers

Interesting job.

Are there any downsides before I start doing this that I should know about???

1/After a few months they may be difficult to get out.

2/Extra weight can cause exhaust to crack.

3/Maybe too loud for track days.
