A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon a web offer that gives a free 'collage mug' for signing up with them. You can upload up to 15 of your own pics, and for no cost, they print them on a nice mug and send it to you. Great.

As well as getting my own free mug, I thought how funny it would be to create fake email addresses and send mugs unsolicited to friends without telling them. Purely because receiving a mug through the post with your own mug on it is funny/bemusing/weird.

Last night I got home late after a meeting and my flatmate told me one recipient had got his mug. We then joked of how a bloke from the pub, Sooty, would be receiving his mug the next morning. Imagine if he had a heart attack and the authorities investigate the curious 'who sent a mug with a picture of him on through fake email addresses/IP adresses'. Ho ho.

I get an email from my housemate today saying that Sooty had a heart attack and died this morning. Too obvious a joke, I'm not having that. Except it's true; he did, he died this morning from a heart attack.

RIP Soot.

Sorry to hear about Sooty frown .

Your story reminds me of the demise of "Harvey Pitnik" in "Amazon Women On The Moon" hehe .

No disrespect intended OP, but he looked like a heart attack waiting to happen anyway in that pic.

I don't know where the name 'Sooty' originated and I can only assume he received his mug. His heart attack though occured at his mother's house, which is not where the mug was sent.

Save money by just having your everyday mug chromed and sharing it between your friends.

hehe I'm sorry to say I share your warped sense of humor! The whole 'Youve been mugged in the mail' did make me laugh out loud.

....sooty must have been pretty much teetering on the edge if that was the final straw though.

So... this link?

I suspect it's a company on the "wrong" side of the world. I doubt the offer applies to us pommes.

Yes. You killed him. He's dead, and it's all because of you.

a guy i know would still be alive if i'd shagged his mrs

they'd split up, he'd moved out
he couldnt afford to build his bike project cos of the costs of living alone and paying CSA
his mrs expressed an interest, i said no
she took him back, he built his bike and got killed on it very soon after
still, coulda been worse

Worse for who exactly? Probably couldn't have been much worse for him.

at the worst of times you have to find the smallest of reasons to be thankful

Sorry to hear about your friend,

I did have to think twice about if it was a joke with a hidden meaning behind it though.

Sorry to hear about your mate.

If it is some hoodoo-voodoo mug, don't send one to Soovy.
