Hi all i have been searching around now for a couple of week and can’t find a definite answer to to question so here goes
I have a 05 2.0tdi auto with the blb engine the problem is the engine has blown and in need of replacement as we all know these engines are very problematic with the oil pump and other issues. What i want to know is will the bkd or bre go in my car some people say no and i have spoke to a couple of people that say they will, my problem is i don’t know what to do i don’t want to spend the money on an engine that won’t run when fitted. Im thinking along the lines of the bkd if i was to buy one of these what work or changes would i have to do to make the engine run
TIA

You can use the head and block from a BKD, but the manifolds, turbo, egr etc will be different, sump and ancil brakets and engine mounts will be different too. BKD is transvers and BLB/BRE are longitudanal.

When you say the old engine has blown, what do you mean, is the turbo ok for example, if you use only the block and head from the BKD and swap all manifolds + ancils etc will be fine, but if there is metal debris from a blow up in the manifold or the turbo is seazed from no oil pressure, you wont be able to use them.

Hope this helps.

hi thanks for the reply my engine would still run if i put new turbo on it the shaft on the intake side of the turbo wiggles about so bearing is fubard, i was driving the car when this happened i got a very large cloud of smoke and turned the engine of right away. the problem is that the engine was very noisey before the turbo went its been like thats for some months (sounds like tractor) now and im thinking is the oil pump that could be ready to fail on top of that the head is porus that in its self ain't to bad but when ya think a turbo is £££ and then the oil pump could go and take the turbo im thinking replace the engine

Agree does look the same, but I CAG is the new common rail engine where BLB is the older PD unit, so it seem unlikely they would be the same, but is it posible.

The thing is both that BLB and the CAG balance shaft assemblies were the later gear driven type, (fitted to BRE engines)

Any BLB engine that is on modified will be set up for chain drive, so no gear drive balance shaft would work, regardless of engine code.

If its just the oil pump you need if comes off of that assemble and is only £50 or so new. But I pressuming you had the chain that drives the oil pump brake??

Some more info here.

HI

Just reading through this as a friend has been telling me about the potential problem he has with his A6 2.0TDI 55 plate. His is a BLB. I've a Touran, which I think means that it is a BKD engine. I realise that BKDs are transverse and BLBs are longitudinal. That in itself won't help, but is the design of the BKD different and can it have the same problem. I think that if I've understood what people are saying, the BKD is gear driven and the BLB chain driven, and that the BKD does not suffer this type of failure. Is the the case or am I just being optimistic?

Thanks
