Audi R10 TDI project cost Audi $15 million a year. I expect they are paying the same for the R15 now.

Worth giving these guys a shout, they have a driver program, with the goal of racing at LeMans. my friend Chris have joined them, and hes hoping to race next year in the GT3 class at LeMans.

http://www.jotasport.com/Jota_Sport/Home.html

P.S. The guy who owns the company Sam Hancock, was racing the works Aston Martin GT1 car (009) before it retired, 1 hour before the end. Hes was in 4th just behind the mighty Audoi R15 cars. If your serious get in touch, they can get you into cheaper classes of racing.

Chris paid £15,000 a weekend for racing on a small Lemans typr car! http://www.jotasport.com/Jota_Sport/News/Entries/2...

The Classic is a complete rip-off IMH. Entry fee 4950€, then you can say £1,000 for a set of tyres, then there's the full race preparation of the car and insurance (not cheap) plus the cost of ferries, taking a motorhome, food and ancillaries. Now work out you get five track periods - two practice and three racing, all of a maximum of 50 mins. Rounded off that makes two hours each driver of track time at a budget of £10,000.

I can answer this one if it was 2002...

Well funded GT2 team running a very good car of the donkey variety. £80k.

For added detail, that particular driver never got to drive it as the 2nd driver crashed it 3 hours in. I can only imagine how frustrating that must have been - especially considering it was dry, clear, sunny, there were no mechanical failures and no other vehicles were involved.

I can give you the 2006 pricelist

We had a chat that year with the T2M engineer Martin Stessl on friday on the campsite. That big group of germans that used to camp on the Autocross track at Houx with some media guys being part of it. They always invite a guest for the friday fan meeting.

He called 250.000€ for Le Mans in a 996 GT3-RS to have all costs covered including insurance, hospitality, hotel and the testday that was still held in 2006 and that's most likely mandatory as pay-driver teams mostly have rookie drivers in their line-up that must pass the rookie-test

So that's the teams cost for the Le Mans operation.

I think Stessl said every driver paid 50.000 and the rest was covered by sponsors

But that's for a GT2 car and T2M was not really the team you wanted to be in if you were looking for a decent finish. It's more a gentlemen drivers team

I expected it to be expensive but not quite as expensive as it seems to be. I was expecting more like £200,000 for the weekend in 2010 money split between 3 drivers.

Obviously there is "in theory" lots of track time compared to a normal race day but still a hell of a lot of money for one weekend. The entry fee seems mental aswell!

Can only imagine what it cost for a drive in the Matmut Peuguot!

I'm surprised at the cost, thought it would have been more than that. So i'm right in assuming once you've paid your deposit of €5,500, if you're entry is accepted, you stump up the remaining €37,000 and then you have your car cost, team cost and hospitality etc?

So you'd be talking a figure of say £150,000 for a car? Another £60,000 for team support and another £50,000 for a Hospitality Unit? All in all, the best chunk of £300k for a decent set-up? Or am i being too cautious with my values?

Always dreamed of running a car GT car in Le Mans, one of those things I want to do before my demise. Just need that lucky win on the lottery........ cloud9

I think you are being a bit ambitious with a car being as little as that, a gt3 rsr used car from 2008 will be around €330,000

IIRC 60k for a drive was the figure for a seat in the T400r when they ran a few years ago..

Are you thinking GT1 or 2? I recall seeing an advert for the Apex Motorsport Jag XK GT3 RS for £150k? Thats why i thought of that figure.

In fact, there's a couple of Gallardo's and all the team equipment going up for auction if you fancy it;

http://www.hilcoind.com/sales/sale.asp?SALE_ID=171...

Fascinating what you can find if you look, even has the race suits, who's in???

Thats a GT3 car. Different to a GT2 car. Pricewise a GT3 Porsche is something like £150k but the GT2 version is more knocking on the door of £300,000

The GT1 cars are just mental, i saw a 2nd hand Aston for sale somewhere and it was something like £600,000

Another fine sidenote of the chat with the T2M engineer was that the insurance excludes damages from tyre and wheelrim failures

In 2005 T2M had to write off a car after a wheelrim broke and poor Xavier Pompidou skidded of the track at the Indianapolis access road and hit a tree then. Luckily on the passenger side as the tree dug a good meter into the cockpit

No money from the insurance, the car already sold to America and to be shipped after LM...

I always wanted to run a mini at the 24hrs le mans and Nurbergring. Its just ridiculous, but if a classic race exsists when i'm 50 and i have'nt done it i will. On my birthday year. However.....

If i ever won the lottery i would spend a lot of time researching if i was a good enough driver, after training to buy myself a seat and compete properly and then race an aston at le mans.

That probably is my most sincere dream.

I can even visualise the finishing line.......

By the looks of it you get a tractor unit but not the trailer (the expensive bit) so thats another 50k ... oh and a bonnet for one of the lambos!
