Hi all, recently purchased a 2007/2008 Saracen Raw 2, I think the Swing Arm bearing has gone as it wobbles from side to side from the middle.

A. Could this be the Swing Arm Bearing?

B. Where would I get a new one, Halfords?

C. How do I know which to get?

Thanks in advance!

Forget asking around for a bearing for a Saracen Raw 2. You need to find out what the bearing code is - either by taking the frame apart, or by talking to the importers.

Then just quote the bearing code to to a friendly local suppliers - mine for instance is http://www.spen-bearings.co.uk/

It will be a couple of pounds at most.

As much as I love bike shops ( I worked in them for years!) they are not the place to buy cartridge bearings!

Thanks, I take it I just undo the bolt and pull the swing-arm free of the rest?

Totally depends on the frame design - could be a pinch bolt assembly that clasps round the bearing, or it could be pressed into the swing arm, with a dust cover/washer and a bolt through it. You'll have to work it out.

It's the latter I think. To the garage!

Its not a bearing, it is just a bush. You need large allen keys to remove it, and it should just unscrew.

Halfords should be able to order you one, its the same part as used on the Ikon, and i think it may be universal to a few other models as well.

Yeah they can, but they are special order, if you take yours with you they might have one kicking round the department. We used to have a few of the apollo ones about and i'm pretty sure they are the same!

Name wise, haha yes i've yet to meet any outside our family with the same name. Is yours war or woff though?

Nah not a tom, although we pronounce ours woff!

I've found Northerners say it our way, and southerners in general say war.

Aaah, that'd just be too weird!

Pretty sure, will have to double check it with the correct tools!

Thread resurrection!
I have the exact same bike!
With the exact same problem!

I suspect my problem is now a whole lot worse than this example, as last year I ran the bike with a snapped axle(!) and the wheel hit against the swing arm rubbing and making the problem worse significantly. (now extensively ungraded)

Op did you get the problem solved?
Any further help guys, not sure Halfords will be able to help not it's several years later!

(I came off ph to google for the problem, and it lead me straight back, gotta love PH)

If its a nylon bush, then when my Yeti had play in its bushings, I found a local machine shop who turned up some replacement bushings. I got about 6 sets for about £30, which cured it for the time I kept the bike frame.

Sorry, hadn't seen this!

I took mine to Halfords, they smacked it with a hammer a few times and changed the Swing Arm bearing in here:

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have lasted as the issue is back. Not sure if there aren't more underlying problems, think I'll just buy a whole new bike some time..!
