I belive that's the glue Aston Martin uses for the chasis.

Yes its the bonding glue, used to bond the aluminium chassi together. Perfectly normal- its so strong that during tests, the metal sheared before the bond did!

As they say this is one of the two types of glue used to bond the panel together.
Have you found the expanding foam yet wink

Now that is surprising as they are aluminium!
Any pics of the corrosion?

On the V8 vantage the rear wings are steel

They look like front wings though...

My guess is that it was some contamination on the wings that has reacted with the paint over time. Some sort of chemical reaction.

Hi, Was the front wings... They were both replaced for new ones.. all i know is paint was bubbling up.. They said it was due to moisture trapped in wings.. The paint was bubbling up along the seams on the wings along the bonnet side...

I am sure the front wings are fibreglass so it seems strange that they would need replacing and not re painting

Just to clear up. The front wings of the V8 Vantage are composite whereby a glass fibre and resin compound is sprayed into a mould - it's known as RMT or Resin Moulding Transfer.

The orange stuff is an Epoxy hot cure bonding adhesive used throughout the V/H architecture. The exterior panels are also bonded on but using a two part adhesive that enables the panels to still be removed and replaced. The rear quarter panels on the Vantage is the only one made out of steel all of the others are either composite or aluminium.

Edited to amend spelling mistakes!

WOW
Great info
So the "corrosion" problem is actually bad paint bonding then

They definetly 100% replaced .. as there is bonding glue (orange stuff) and new grills on the sides of the wings..

Good to know they have done that on a paint defect rather the try to take it all back down to base coat and try to get the paint to bond again.

The orange epoxy is only applied to the core V/H structure, the bonding agent used for the composite panels is a different colour. Looking at your images the bonding adhesive is on the primary engine bay structure and is not part of the front wing panel. The exterior panel adhesive is black.

The orange epoxy is left slightly messy as this adds to its effectiveness. Anything that is bonded together using the Orange resin can never be un-bonded and replaced.

The front wing could easily have been replaced but you will not be able to see where that has been re-bonded to the V/H structure.

The paint bubbling is not related to the Orange stuff you have photographed.

I hope you enjoy your beautiful vehicle now that it has been sorted!

Revisiting this old post after finding expanding foam on the Chassis of my Aston during an MOT inspection, googling 'Expanding Foam in my Aston' and this post flagged up.

You mentioned 'Have you found the expanding foam yet wink ' which no one picked up on. Could you shed some light on what this could be?

Thank you,

Paul

You might have to post on the McLaren forum, if you want mikey k to answer your question.

He was very loyal to Aston Martin, but I think he got a bit too carried away with increasing the horsepower.
We were never told, but something went wrong.

Ok, thank you for notifying me. I will attempt to DM Mikey, that would make more sense.

Thanks again, Paul
