SSC To Hit Back At Bugatti's 268mph Veyron

Former fastest car in the world looks to regain its title

Shelby SuperCars might have just lost its claim to be the manufacturer of the fastest car in the world to Bugatti, but the US supercar maker is reportedly well underway with plans to get its record back.

The Ultimate Aero TT's record of 256.18mph was smashed a little over a week ago by the new Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

The record now stands at a lofty 267.8mph, but - says US blog site Jalopnik - SSC is apparently working on a new package for its ultimate Aero that will once again help it regain the 'fastest car' crown.

The new car, designed by new recruit to the Saab fold, Jason Castriota, could make its debut later this summer.

If you are thinking of doing around 270mph would you want to be in a Bugatti Veyron or a 'Shebly'...

LOL I know it's rediculous to compare these two cars- you could cruse reasonably safely in a bugatti at 200+ but I seriously doubt the SSC would be anything other that terrifying.

From what I read the Bugatti will not do 268mph in road settings. So to setup a car for over 250mph can it realy be a road car?

Who f**king cares you short-cocked wasters. I'd be far more impressed if you spent your time making it look less like a door wedge that's been chewed on by the dog...

How ssc are still in business with so little sales is beond me. Dont think they have worked out yet that having the fastest does not add up to sales.

Brand... Image...

Initially the Veyron wasn't going to be sold... it was supposed to be a "look what we can do".

I'm not a massive fan of the Veyron, but I know which of these cars I have the most respect for in terms of engineering. And it aint the Shelby.

You could strap a rocket to a turd and make it do 300mph hehe The tricky bit is doing this speed with finesse and making the performance accessable, which sure as sh*t wont be the case with the Shelby. Some rather large kahunas needed to go over the double ton in that methinks.

Didnt Autocar do a short review of the SSC in the UK? I remember reading it and they said it was rubbish. Awkward, difficult to drive and overall just not pleasant. The Bugatti wasnt a patch on it and that remains the key aspect though - The Bug has driveability, smoothness and a practical package (as much as a million dollar car can be) and it will do the performance day in day out in virtually any conditions.

The SSC on the other hand was a nightmare and not pleasant. So yeah, it might get the headline figure, but it wont get the sales - because only a very small percentage of the super rich could ever use it. At least the Bug can be used (in a very limited form)....

Willy waving in the extreme. Appeals to 14 year olds only. I cannot see buyers of 1000+BHP hyper cars will actually care one hoot about the top speed. It hardly that they are going to bang on about it down the pub is it?

Meh.

It always makes me laugh whenever SSC turns up on this site.

So much bile, so much cobblers, so much hate and rage.

And yet have you ever so much as read a road test of one?

No, didn't think so.

I saw an SSC Aero in that exclusive car shop near Lords. I was cycling past about 2 years ago and called in, dipping in sweat, satchel slung across my back and the chap in there was very friendly. I thought that it looked very sleek in the flesh and the salesman let me have a look inside and sit in it and say "brumm". It was terrible, though. Panel gaps all over the place, very low rent interior even for a yank car.

Maybe I'm a 14 year old but doing 270mph+ sounds like a nice day out.
