No.

If coming off SORN you must wait until the disc is displayed on the vehicle.

When you apply for a tax disc online or by using our phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive. This will only apply when you have applied for a new tax disc before the current one expires. You should continue to display the expired disc on your vehicle, until the new one arrives.

Usually I'd risk it for a biscuit and with ANPR hooked up to an online/live? database it would probably be ok, but I suppose you never know.

Soon as you tax it, it is no longer sorn. Online or at the PO.

On the other hand, this is what was printed on the back of my last tax-disc reminder:

So, it looks like you'll be not be committing an offence for the first 5 days of the month after the SORN expires, if you've taxed by 'phone or online. However, if you tax the vehicle in the middle of a month, when the vehicle is SORNed, it's not obvious what the law is, regarding displaying the disc.

Cheers for that, It'll only be driven once, from the garage to home. Bugger that I'll lose 3/4 of a month on the disc as I'll be taxing it tomorrow, ho hum.

Bit o/t. I've heard of a few cases of people being pulled and detained for no insurance, even though they have a certificate on them. Think that database is updated weekly.

Is tax a live system or weekly again? I may be chatting bks but is what I thought.
