Hi all, i noticed that one set of cameras has now been installed on the M1 just after the M25 junction (6A i think). Has anyone been caught on this? Thanks.

Yes, i got caught by these. Pretty sure, the other night. Hammering it home from ace cafe.
There is a set each way, i.e - One way has a set of four cameras on one gantry, and the other has the same. Other gantry do have brackets on looking ready for the sudden addition of more. This is beetween the m25 junction and luton junction.
I do the route everyday too work, and the lines have been painted for ages but no cameras. And suddenly there up. But variable limit signs still greyed out. So who knows . . I will report back if i receieve or don't receive a ticket.

Anyone know if there active yet?
Pictures of said cameras;

When I was on the M1 last week I saw some signs and markings but no cameras (so I thought) and after looking at the photos above I now know there are no cameras yet, (between Sheffield and Nottingham at least)
Thanks for the post.

Jake, Do you know when they went up? How do you know you got caught, did they flash? Please let me know if you receive anything. Thanks.

Someone post if they put them on the gantries between M25 and Luton.

I do slow down for them now. A bit.

Marked plod seem a regular on that stretch of M1 around 7:10am I've noticed. They've always pulled someone over when I go by whistle

Did just read this...

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201011/...

5 July 2010 : Column 20W

Speed Limits: Cameras
Mr Knight: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport from what date he expects fixed-speed cameras to be in operation on the M1 in Hertfordshire. [3600]

Mike Penning: The M1 Junctions 6a-10 scheme will allow the use of mandatory variable speed limits to manage traffic flows.

Speed enforcement cameras to support compliance with the operation of the variable speed limits are expected to come into operation in November 2010.

Drove down the M1 from Luton into London last night; not super fast but didn't see anything flash me.

The pictures i posted are the cameras between Luton and the m25. . .

And i will post if anything comes through, and will also let you all know if it doesn't. Nothing as yet 6 days on.
And it didn't flash, but with a dark tint visor at night, i don't know if i would have noticed at the speed i was doing to be quite honest.

And hopefully they are not active until november, just trying to make everyone aware before then!!

Out of interest, does anybody know if these cameras will only flash you if there is a (temporary)reduction in speed limit,or are they still active when the limit is 70mph?

Are we in danger of getting flashed doing 80-85mph even when the signs are blank with the NSL in force?

Yes, i'm quite sure they enforce NSL as well as temporary enforcements. Like the M25 cameras do.

When I drove down on Tues night, I had my roof down so had it flashed me I certainly would have seen it, I was probably about the same speeds you mentioned.

EDIT: Oh wait, not the speeds you mentioned, what somebody else said.

But do they still absolutely definitely flash? Don't some of these cameras get you know without a flash?

If it helps I know the ones on the m25 flash.

I did think however that they only catch you if there is a limit in the red ring of doom on the sign? I've gone round the m25 without the limits on or caution on my behalf, and didn't receive anything!

I guess the m1 could be different as they are newer!

bks. Should have read the earlier posts better! Those gantries are on my daily commute to Luton. Guess I should give them a bit more respect from now on.

The new cameras on the M1 appear to be exactly the same as the ones on the M42 and the newer ones on the M25. They definitely *do* flash when active.

How many of the camera housings will have an active camera though? I'm sure I heard they only have a few camera units that they can move between different gantries - so you would be quite unlucky to get caught on any of these stretches even if going quite quickly.
