I am planning on servicing the car myself on Thurs/Fri, but have noticed that my car has some locking wheel nuts (see piccy), but no key to undo them! Having looked into these a bit it appears that they are a standard Mazda part, but having called my local dealer am told that they wouldn't be able to supply one for me. The part number is H001-86-260-2.

Would a kindly PH'er have one that I could borrow/buy at all? Am in SW London, but will pay postage if need be.

You can get locking wheel nut removers Halfords and some others do them. Then get a new set?

They are unique i.e. you can't borrow a key to remove them. A GOOD dealer should be able to get a new key from your number plate if it was original equipment wink

I used a socket and a hammer to get mine off. Obviously you have to bin them afterwards.

I also think that some of the tyre fitting places have tools to remove them.

That's just not true. Mines been used to remove wheels from 2 other MX5s. One of them a MK2. And looks identical to the one pictured. I suspect there are a few (5 or so) patterns.

That's identical to the key I have as well. Unfortunately I'm about 400 miles away!

This'll sound silly but have you checked it's not rolling around waaaaay down at the front of the boot on either side of the fuel tank (behind the spare wheel on the right, or the metal panel covering the filler neck on the left)? I had to hunt for fecking ages before I found mine. hehe

Ok, maybe not unique but there are supposed to be a number of different ones. Either way, a dealer should be able to get you one if it's a UK car and it had those locking nuts from new. I had to get a new one for my old Mk1 Berkeley and the dealer (Newbury Mazda) needed the reg no to make sure he got the right one.

We have a winner!! Was found after reading this advice on the MX5OC forum, it had just been chucked in/fallen out of the toolkit. It is a standard part with no variation, so if someone has googled this because they can't find theirs, lift the jack out and have a good look around the boot!
