Ecclestone: New F1 Teams 'Out Of Their Depth'

Bernie reckons new F1 teams would not be missed if they left the championship

Bernie Ecclestone reckons that the 'second division' F1 teams that have joined the grid this year bring very little to the sport.

The F1 supremo even told the Telegraph that he reckons a couple of the teams will drop out before the end of 2010. And it's not a good thing to be on the wrong side of Ecclestone.

"I would not be surprised if one or two of [the new teams] did not make the end of the season," he said. "I think there are a couple of teams in Formula 1 who really shouldn't be there. They are a bit out of their depth at the moment.

"The bottom line is they haven't really and truly given us value for being there. If suddenly these teams don't turn up at races then I don't think the crowds will get any smaller, or the TV sets will turn off, or the newspapers will stop writing, will they?"

Ecclestone seems to be a little more kindly disposed towards Lotus: "Lotus is a good name. I wouldn't want to lose them. But in general this year has been a bit of a nuisance because it has cost money to keep these [struggling] teams in."

That's not entirely true. Back markers can provide opportunity for overtaking, slow down people & more cars on the track increases the chance of a safety car which usually livens up a dull race.

All got to start somewhere, Williams struggled for year after year just to keep the car running the distance in the early days.

Grumpy f**king midget.

Someone needs to pick him up and stick him, head-first, into a pile of dung.

Yeah lets get rid of all the teams in the championship that don't finish in the top six - that way it will make the already most boring form of motorsport even more boring and un-watchable. frown
They should take a long hard look at MotoGP, even their dull races are 100 times better than F1.

Does anyonelike him? I've always wondered if the drivers/commentators just put up with him and pretend to like him.
I like some of the "second division" teams like Lotus, hopefully one day they will return to thier former glory but it won't happen overnight

Yes let's get rid of all of the teams. How dare they race prototype cars in the vain hope of attempting to compete against the F1 elite in 5 or 10 years.

The chances of any team entering F1 and just racing to the front is approximately zero. It took red bull four years and they have the kind of funding that you can only get by selling a drink that costs 5p per can to manufacture for prices that would make apple blush.

Maybe this is just BE's way of "politely" motivating the lower ranked teams.

Of course you need them there and I don't think he'd every kick them out.

He just plays his game his way using his rules! shootheadache

What an absolute c**k, this sorry excuse for a man has destroyed Formula 1, simply because he see's at as a business and couldn't give a damn about its sporting roots and pedigree. In fact it is no longer a sport at all, just a cash cow for this a*se!!

It's about time that the teams and fans, who want to see Formula 1 back as a sport, without race fixing etc..., stand up to him and revive what we all used to love and admire. Split and form a new championship or something, but just do something, so this this money grabbing pikey doesn't destroy Forumal 1 forever.

Rant Over!!

This man is so far removed from the reality of what true race fans want it isn't funny. If F1 ended up with half a dozen 'Top' teams only and it became even more processional than it is now with fans suspecting more and more that results are stage managed (Ferrari hang your heads in shame!!) then I'm afraid smaller crowds, TV's being turned off and papers taking less of an interest is exactly what will happen!

Indeed. He presides over a group of spoilt ego maniacs and his management solution is to slap them in the face and call them girls in public. The UK could do with much more of this management style.

F1 would be kapput without this massive midget. Look at what a complete clustrefk the BRDC is as it's run by a committee of the world's greatest living human beings.
