This Is Your Life style photo books

It's my Dads 60th shortly and the family would like to create a "This is your life" style photobook.

I've just received over 400 photos in the post from my mum which are superb, so I now need to buy a top quality scanner and find a place to create a really nice hard back photobook in the style of "This Is Your Life".

Can anyone recommend a good photo scanner. I already have a pretty good HP scanner but it's quite old and the Windows 7 drivers are very limited compared with the XP drivers. Since I have Win7 installed, I'd like some hardware with Win7 software. (Avoiding HP now because of this....).

I also need to know where I can get the book printed. Obviously there is Photobox but they don't do anything like this. Any ideas? Recommendations?

Price is good around 80-100 pounds.

If you have a Mac then use iPhoto to produce an iBook. I just had a hardback book done of a recent holiday and it's simply stunning

I tried the Blurb software, but for some reason it just wound me up, so I went back to the built in Apple tools.

But...just another thumbs up for Blurb. I have bought over 1000 books from them (I flog 'em) and they have never dissapointed. Once they screwed up and sent another set without question.

Quality is not absolutely stunning (none of the photobook people do that unless you pay really silly money), but 99.9% of people love them.

Photobox are hoplessly overpriced with books (considering how cheap they are with enlargements).

That iBook thing really is the don. I saw one that was given to a couple who were emigrating. The quality is really top notch.

Yep, another thumbs up for Blurb here.

If you don't like the style of the pages in Blurb - Use Photoshop to layout an page how you want it - then save the page complete with images as a single image.

Then upload as a single image page - voila - exactly how you like it.

If you still want to try your old HP scanner it may be worth trying to download the latest drivers from HP's website. I had to do this for an old HP scanner that didn't have the right drivers for Win7.

Nope....no good! Just limited functionality in both Win7 and XP

For scanner, take a look at the Epson Perfection V300 - cost around £90

If you think you might also need to be able to scan negatives and slides as well as Photos, then the V350 adds that for not a lot more at £120.
