Strange convoy on the M1
Discussion
Hello,
I was wondering if anybody has any idea what was going on with a convoy I saw on the M1 near Leeds today. I saw two '4 tonner' type trucks (Not quite the biggest non-articulated lorries - Civilian, but about the size of Army trucks) each light and dark blue two tone with 'Caution Convoy' notices on the back. They were flanked by five or six 4x4's with blue flashing lights and yellow and orange stripes on the back. They weren't police, and they didn't look like highways agency. Each of the 4x4's had an electronic LED notice in the back window that said 'Do Not Pass'.
Now, the weird thing about this is that the '4 tonners' as I call them (no idea what the correct term is) were significantly breaking the speed limit (80mph ish) and the 4x4's were doing some rather erratic looking italian job style driving trying to prevent people from overtaking. The trucks stayed in the outside lane (which I didn't think was legal) and the 4x4's were all over the road preventing people from passing. I thought all large vehicles were restricted to 56mph?
So far I've had three suggestions. Prisoners? I don't think so because they were soft sided lorries Gold? Maybe, but you'd think they might be a bit discrete and also have armoured trucks.
My first thought being that the Royal Armouries are in leeds that they were carrying guns or explosives of some kind?
Dunno, I'm stumped and it was a pretty odd thing to witness.

seems to me, a lorry doing 80, and non police wombles weaving all over the road is INCREASING the chances of an accident.
Surely easier to have a convoy but keep the speeds a bit lower and go in the middle of the night when it is quieter?
Scary that this sort of b
ks is going on with nuclear waste or similar.

Sounds identical to what happens a couple of times each week between the bank of england and the printing works in debden.
Clear path all the way no stopping and boxed in the outside lane
Either used notes going to be distroyed or new ones being delivered
But up there could be another reason bullion transfer etc ?

Massively heavy escorted convoy broke down at the bottom of the Archway road last year. Cops all had blue boiler suit type uniforms. They where looking a tad panicky ! They even tried to stop traffic coming down the road on the other side of the barriers but failed due to lack of local cops . a few women officers as well all tooled up with some fancy french automatics . Helicopter was above it all the time.
I would imagine it was a Bank of England convoy??

Discreditable Conduct
Police officers behave in a manner which does not discredit the police service or undermine public confidence, whether on or off duty.
Police officers resport any action taken against them for a criminal offence, conditions imposed by a court or the receipt of any penalty notice.

French guns??? No chance lol they would be the German made H&K G36 carbine this is the primary weapon of the CNC and routinely used by other forces now. I would imagine it was a Bank of England convoy??
