World's Fastest Four Door Tops 230mph

Twin supercharged M5 conversion lives up to its name - Hurricane

230mph, 800hp Hurricane RS...
230mph, 800hp Hurricane RS...
'Speed Matters', so here's news from German Tuner G-Power which is claiming a new record for the 'World's Fastest Sedan'.

372.1kmh - or 231.2mph - is the number apparently recorded during an outing at the test track for the company's BMW M5 based Hurricane RR, up from its previous best of a meagre 367.4kmh (228mph) earlier this year. We're not sure if the new feat was independently witnessed, and it was a peak maximum on an oval test track rather than a speed reached over the flying mile in both directions, but we're still allowing ourselves to be graciously impressed. (Especially as the Hurricane RR is powered by the same V10 engine that we're running in the PH fleet BMW M6 - Hurrah!)

G-Power's car is blessed with a little more poke than ours thanks to the adoption of twin ASA T1-316 superchargers, both belt driven and each providing pressure to a bank of cylinders.

...but it comes with £200k price tag!

The tuners tell us that a complicated aluminium casting replaces the standard air box on top of the engine, and its direct inlet is responsible for "incomparable response and also much more torque".

The inner workings of the 10-cylinder, four-valve engine feature Mahle high-performance forged pistons for lower compression and increased mechanical strength. The standard connecting rods and piston pins have been upgraded too.

A remap of the engine electronics also contributes to the increased output, which G-Power says is up to 800hp between 7500-8000rpm with 590lb ft available at 5,000 rpm.

The car was fitted with specially certified 19ins Michelin Pilot Sport tyres for the record run.

We'll make do with our V10's 507hp...

If you fancy a bit of the World's Fastest Sedan, G-Power will tune up your existing M5 to suit, or supply you a complete one for €251,100, which xe.com tells us amounts to the princely sum of £206,481.98. All of which sadly means we'll not be talking to them about an upgrade for the editorial M6...

Awesome achievement.

Unlike supercars like Murcielago's & Veyrons, where aerodynamics plays a major part in its speed this is basically a brick on wheels.

This is a seriously good achievement and although carries a hefty price tag, in relation to other supercars out there it isn't out of the normal price bracket - albeit it is still 'just' an M5.

Had a giggle at the open sunroof in the photos. Just imagined opening it up on the run and mirroring a scene from James Bond and his ejector seat. Ha!

How long before mainstream manufacturers are knocking out cars like this rather than modifiers fettling them?

Great piece of kit, it makes me smile.

Thats a bloody good achievement and well done to them... But where is all that money going?!? confused I know it's more than just a remap, but come off it!

Not wishing to nitpick, but you've referred to it several times as the "Hurricane RS", but it clearly says "Hurricane RR" down the side on the pics.

Impressive achievement all the same.

Without a distance being quoted it means very little im afraid. An 800bhp Brick Saloon would just tad 200mph in a standing mile & be a tad short of 210 in 1.5miles. Could have been running round that oval for ages to wind up to that. Ive a 20 year old Ford it would not beat down Brunters wink.

I dunno, with the whole willy-waving thing that BMW/Audi/Mercedes have going on and even Lexus getting in on the act I don't think 800bhp saloons are any more than 5 or 6 years away even if the market for them will be tiny.

If BMW and/or Mercedes produce an 800bhp saloon, the tuners will just up their game and aim for 1200bhp or whatever. Ultimately the tuning companies don't have to worry about emissions and are probably less concerned with reliability so they are always going to be able to get more power than a mainstream manufacturer.

Good effort. Nioce to see the Germans playing catch-up with the brits for once:

225.675mph. Official. Not guess work or theory.

The XFR "...had been modified with the appropriate safety gear (roll cage, fire suppression system, etc.), along with a sizable low-mounted rear spoiler and a derestricted ECU that allowed the supercharger to yield around 600 horsepower thanks to a bit more boost...

....Incredibly, the Bonneville run was completed on stock Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, and the Rocketsports-prepared XFR was still registering a bit of wheelspin at that speed...."

In fact, I still think its Coventry 1, Munich 0

Nitpick 2:

"G-Power's car is blessed with a little more poke than ours thanks to the adoption of twin of ASA T1-316 superchargers..."

boxedin

Otherwise, a nice loony car. Still prefer the Brabus Rocket though.

Nitpick 3:

"up from it's previous best"

The apostrophe shouldn't be there.

Don't assume all saloons are "bricks, though.

An Audi R8 V10 has a Cd of 0.37, while the S8 V10 has a Cd of 0.28....! Even with a 15% larger frontal area, the S8 has a 15% lower total drag than the R8!

I'm guessing that at these crazy speeds, reducing lift would be the hardest part of the aerodynamics.

I get really tired of these flat black paint jobs.
It is NOT cool at all.
And they are not a sign of creative and imaginative design work.

It' s just plain boring, IMO !
