Video: Pagani Zonda R 'Ring documentary

3mins 45secs of Zonda 'Ring Fever. What do you mean, you can't take a fag break?

This one does what it says on the can - it's 3.45mins of documentary style video giving a bit of background flavour to Pagani's recent outing at the 'Ring with the Zonda R.

As you may recall the car achieved a lap-time of 6:47.5, which may not upset Radical, but probably left engineers at Ferrari and Porsche feeling a little miffed. This video tells you why they bothered.

The vid has been around for a little while, but as we missed it the first time we thought some of you may have done so too. Or hey, why not watch it again!

(Just in case you missed this one as well, here's the official video of the full lap that we showed you back in July.)

Great video, beautiful car too - roof mounted air scoops send me potty - love em!

Could have done with some on-screen telemetry though.

Race time - 2:48 - coming out of the right hander, does he miss a gear?
It seems that because his hands are crossed over and the flaps are fixed he has to use the 'wrong' hand and the engine seems to bog down???

"The laptime of 6:47 that we have obtained with reasonable ease..."

Love it biggrin

That sound of that car at full pelt is utterly fabulous.

Does look like he's fumbling about a bit there. Should have been faster, then!

Seems like he had a couple of similar issues throughout the lap, I figured that one at 2:48 might have been short shifting to make sure the tail didn't wander off but it seemed odd to be doing so. But yeah, I wonder how fast a perfect lap would have been? Not that it was slow by any measure, of course.

I'll never forget the time a mate of mine was photographing the tailpipes at Goodwood and just as he crouched down about half a foot from the back of the car they decided to start it up, I always wondered what an expression of simultaneous terror, fright, appreciation and amazement (possibly a degree of lust too) would look like.

Makes you wonder wether its better having flaps that rotate with the wheel rather than being fixed - a similar 'fault', IIRC, afflicted the Ferrari 458 that JC tested on Top Gear a few weeks ago.

Those harsh down shifts on a dead engine sound mechanically brutal.

From the driver's reaction at the end of the lap, I'm not sure whether he enjoyed it or not. It's hard to tell.

Precisely vice versa. What's been a piece of art turned into race car

Wow. It's interesting to see how different those two designs are (from a guy who thinks that all Zondas look the same). wink

What a truely wonderful car. I can't believe how composed it seems on the 'ring either. I'm sure Basseng is having to work very hard but the Zonda doesn't seem like it's on a knife edge like a lot of cars do in fast lap videos I've watched. I suppose the downforce he talks about will have a lot to do with it. It does appear that it could get round even faster, which is mindblowing.

One man went "fk it" i love cars, and I love exotic machinary..... then he went to the ring and set a lap time with "reasonable ease" that surpassed everyone else. With his own bloody car!

Huge huge respect, and the same goes for the radical boys.

I bet it does annoy Ferrari as well.

And i love this type of rivalary.

I have a friend who's done some engine mapping for Mr Pagani, and has been to the factory a few times. He's seen Mr P working on the production line assembling the cars, and not just the Race cars either...
Seems he's a true car guy and that apart I love, the Zonda R is my kind of car but have to say I don't like the back of the normal versions just not my taste I suppose... and yes anyone who shows Ferrari the way gets my vote coolclap

Great effort, excellent car/people/track, that is what I call good marketing.
