Video: 'Unscripted' Passion For A BMW 2800CS
A cool celluloid homage to Murray's mint Bavarian coupe
If we had owned a BMW 2800CS for 40-odd years and racked up over 450k miles, we like to think we’d be cool like Murray.
He’s a far-from-fossilised octogenarian that BMW’s ruthless marketing cynics have dug-up in Costa Mesa, California, to make us feel warm and fluffy about the brand.
And you know what, it’s only worked… the absolute blighters!

Sweet.

Love it. Hope my 528i E39 lasts that long as I dont see anything I would replace it with. Its nearly halfway there with 187k and going strong. I just dont like the E60 as much though the newest one looks a lot better.
get it serviced regularly by an indy specialist and with overly regular oil changes, no reason it shouldn't see a fait bit more. the engine in the E9 CS as above, it notoriously bullet proof, probably BMW's toughest engine they have ever built.daveco said:

The last stylish and good-looking car BMW marketed. What's not to like.

though, to a certain extent i do agree with lusifer, i don't think any have trumped this. the E24 635csi was pretty bloody cool though. same engine too.

And of course this absolute beaut;

Very good advert indeed!
Maximum respect to Murray for caring for the car for so long, stunning old car too..
The thing is, the laid back Californian lifestyle lends it's self to that kind of thing, long warm dry summers, mild winters
in general nice pace of life, I could go on as I have experienced and stayed with friends who are just like Murray, it
makes one think when you return to rat-race wet taxed to death Britain that there is more to life than being worked to the bone.
Ok then here is the challenge, ARE YOU LISTENING GARLIK?
Who out there is going to be brave enough to try and emulate "on video" that lifestyle ambiance
created in this video by BMW????????
Pistonheads take up the challenge please, here is a great competition opportunity for you!!!!
Cheers

I'm not surprised the car is still going after all these years. Many other cars would last that long over here few often do because of the damp miserable climate over here. My 2004 Mondeo has racked over 215K and the body is slightly starting to succumb to the britsh climate. If the body could last as long as the engine, I would say sure it could do another 200K + miles.
Beautiful car, BMW really did make some gorgeous wheels.
How about the beautiful 507:

or the stunning 3.0csl (same shape as the 2800, isn't it?)

Or the forerunner to all the hot hatches the 2002tii:

and the 'touring' version:

My father had 3 '02 cars at a time when there simply weren't any BMW's in the UK, first one in about '69, I think, I remember flashing headlights at other drivers, oh how things have changed.

The Californian climate helped to preserve it?
Stunning. Old cars look so much better with their slim pillars.
Just watching it the second time. I also like the Sparrows chirping.
Jalopnik frequently do "Down on the street" which features very old cars in California still being used as daily drivers. There is no rhyme or reason to the make or model of car, just the climate.Stunning. Old cars look so much better with their slim pillars.

i suspect it's not quite as simple as that. the mileage for age suggests your mondeo spends most of its life on the motorway. much less work than doing smaller miles, over a longer period of time. as i said before, there aren't many engines that can outlast the M30 block in that E9. it was (and still is today) bmw's longest serving engine ever, running for 26(!) years.Gassing Station | General Gassing [Archive] | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
