A6 Tiptronic transmission oil change
Discussion
I have recently bought a A6 2.7TDi Quattro Tiptronic. 82k miles. I don't believe transmission fluid has been changed and thinking of getting that done. I know it's supposed to be 'sealed for life' but don't entirely believe that.
Appreciate any suggestions/advice from other owners.
[edit]Just spoken to an auto transmission specialist (based in Leatherhead) and they say DON'T change the oil. Although, on being questioned harder, that advice was somewhat diluted to: (a) if you do change it, you must use the correct, Audi approved, replacement oil; and (b) you can't get all of the old oil out anyway.
Now I don't have any engineering expertise but is seems to me that however good it is, no oil will last forever. So there must be SOME circumstances where changing the oil in a gearbox will be generally beneficial. Further if a complete oil change will be beneficial then [x]% (any number >0 and <100) new oil will also be beneficial, at least to some extent.[/edit]
Appreciate any suggestions/advice from other owners.

My 2005 A4 2.0T Q tiptronic is at 75000. I'm having mine changed in the next month. Appreciate any suggestions/advice from other owners.

As you say, no oil can last a lifetime. Sealed for Warranty!
Sorry was trying to use Blackberry at work! Had the gearbox oil on my A6 3.0Tdi changed by Mckay's in Glasgow it was £340 bot they have a machine which flushes the T/convertor aswell, mine had done 80k when done, I use it for towing so I think it defo will extend the life of the Auto box.

Thanks Cammy. Interesting about the machine to flush out the torque converter. Sadly Glasgow is a bit far for me (London area). If anyone who's had it done has a recommendation for a place more local I'd be grateful.cammy33 said:
I think £12 per litre sounds about correct, how much do Audi charge? That also includes a filter which is actually part of the Sump pan, well that's what they told me! Hope I've not been robbed?
i have been given two answers for correct ATF for my A6 Quattro 2.7TDi Tiptronic by parts departments of two different main agents, as follows:- Part # G 052 180 A2 at £12.35/litre
- Part # G 060 162 A2 at £31.04/litre
The first price is high enough, the second is unbelievable. What couald be in the second that justifies a price 2.5 x the first.
Is there really a difference between them or is it just a pricing mechanism to screw more out of unuspecting owners?
By way of update, I visited an Audi franchise parts department and discussed the question of which oil/ATF is correct for the Tiptronic gearbox. The chap I spoke to, who appeared knowledgable and confident, confirmed that the recommended oil is G 060 162 A2 (£31.04/litre) (for A4, A6 and A8 Tiptronic boxes) and that G 052 180 A2 (£12.35/litre) is for the Multitronic box. He also stated that (in his experience) problems with the Tiptronic box are rare. That's reassuring, but I still intend to go ahead with an oil change and I will swallow hard and pay for the expensive oil.
