On Video: P4/5 Competizione's Creator Talks
Jim Glickenhaus stars in the first part of a documentary following the creation of his unique Ferrari racer
For most of us, creating our own racing car - and then driving it in one of the world's toughest and most famous endurance races - is a dream that's beyond the ken of even a £112m lottery win. But for Jim Glickenhaus that dream is a reality.
We've talked before of his project to build a racing version of his unique Pininfarina P4/5, the P 4/5 Competizione, and - well - this is the man himself taking about how he plans to create a 'privateer' Ferrari to challenge Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Audi in their own backyard at the 2011 Nurburgring 24 Hours.
It's the first in a series of videos documenting the build of the new car, which has taken the innards of both an F430 GT2 racer and a road-going F430 Scuderia (to make the racer US road-legal once it's retired from competition, we're told).
More power to your elbow, Jim, for taking on Ze Germans - and we can't wait for part two.

Love the existing car and his incredible collection, but what an appallingly self-indulgent and content-free video!
Utter dross.
Hmmm... know what you're saying. Roll on part two please, Jim!Utter dross.
But if you can't be self-indulgent with that kind of cash, when can you be??

I agree too... however I *really* like the ideas he has so I'll happily let him off! I bet him and Jay Leno have some interesting chats...Quite glad the videographer spends as much time looking at the P4 and beach-buggy-thing :-)
Not sure if he can really outgun the big factory teams in a race (let alone at the 'Ring), but given what he's doing he may well be investing a similar amount of cash!

Of course its self indulgent, as is Chris Evans twittering about his car collection, Nick Mason writing about his etc etc etc. Just be happy that people like JG are sharing the experience, with those of use who find ourselves in a more financially constrained situation
As I keep on saying, it's not the subject matter I find self-indulgent, it's the video-maker's "style" and massive over-featuring of himself. It should be about Glickenhaus and his cars, not how great the video guy is IMO.
I met Jim at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a couple of years ago - I went up the hill in the 599 behind his P4/5 - and we had a chat at the top. I was struck by his genuine desire to show the car off and talk about it. Some may call it self-indulgent but he's clearly an incredible car enthusiast and it's great that his 'work' regularly sees the light of day rather than being squirrelled away in some garage somewhere as a trophy piece.

NOBODY IS SAYING HE IS SELF-INDULGENT!!It's the guy making the vid- oh I give up...
i've got to get this off my chest;
we've all, no doubt, spent hours ogle-ing the original P3/4 .... fantastic shape, curve flows into curve flows into curve. not a hint of a straight line anywhere.
so when i see the P4/5 - don't get me wrong here, it's a FANTASTIC looking car that i would love to own - my eye is always drawn to this piece of hideous straight-ness!! could the air intake not just be curved in some way!? my eye just can't help being drawn to it! it's like having a date with salma hayek and spending all night staring at the zit on the end of her nose!

It's strange that in 360 and 480 resolution, the video is 6 mins 32 secs long, but in 720p it's 6 mins 33 secs. Hmmm...
Anyway, I'm interested to see how the Competizione turns out. I think the existing P4/5 looks fabulous and I wonder if the extra spoilers and general aggression will work for the car. Great project and wesome use of wealth; it makes me happy that there are people willing and able to indulge like this. I'm willing, it's just a shame I'm not able.
