Just got my 1st 997.....taking osm egtting used to after driving BMWs for the last few years...

Ive got a C2 (non-S)997, but the car seems very quiet for a sports car (doesnt have PSE)

I want a deeper, better exhaust note and from my reading on some of the US forums, the 'Gundo hack' is the way forward..

has anyone on here done it to theirs? If so, please share youe thoughts on the topic...

Also, how much would an exhaust place reasonably charge, how long did it take, are there any downsides to it etc

Ta!

Copied from Renntrack.com

A "GUNDO HACK", is turning a stock 997 muffler into a PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust).

This is accomplished by welding a 1.5"-2" pipe connecting the 2 pipes of the muffler.

It creates a much deeper and louder sound than stock, similar or better than the PSE.

Just remove mufflers, take them to a muffler shop and show them these pictures, and say: "DO THIS!"

Here are some POST GUNDO HACK PICTURES:

The "GUNDO HACK" is called that because it was popularized by forum member gundo, after he posted pictures and explanations and decided to do the hack with a larger diameter pipe (2").

Prior it was just called PSE HACK.

If you're going to go down this route, I would highly recommend you speak to Gert at Carnewal about his RSR exhaust conversions. The sound you get for relatively little outlay (and hassle) is second to none IMO.

Sorry if this is a stupid question (I'm admittedly not very knowledgeable on these sort of things), but does this have any consequences on emissions or legal noise levels? i.e. would you have to replace the muffler with a standard one come MOT time?

None whatsoever.
