Porsche's New GT3 RS Cup Racer

Carrera cup car based on GT3 RS for the first time

Porsche has revealed the latest iteration of its 911 GT3 cup race car - and, for the first time, it's based on the GT3 RS rather than the 'stock' GT3.

The new GT3 Cup car will make its debut in the 2011 Carrera Cup GB series, and now basks in the title of 'best-selling race car of all time', with Porsche having shifted 1400 examples of it and its predecessors since 1998.

Thanks to its link to the GT3 RS road car, the new racer gets the 44mm-wider 911 bodywork, and the 3.8-litre flat-six. That gives the car 444bhp, 29bhp more than last year's 3.6-engined model, but the same as the road car.

The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a sequential six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential, and the whole lot is 170kg lighter than the GT3 RS road car, so it should be pretty sharp on the track.

If you fancy a GT3 Cup, Porsche will sell you on for £94,600 plus VAT and deliveries to customers will begin in early 2011

So the new GT3 cup is a different car to the GT3-R being raced in british GT then? I always thought the GT3-R was the new car for the uk championship, but they are different right?

this is not a new car is the same as the super cup (w/o pccb) used in 2010 that supports the grand prix.

the gt3R is different altogether and is for any series which uses the GT3 performance balanced cars British GT, FIA GT3 etc.

Yep. The GT3 Cup is designed for the likes of the one make race series' Porsche Carrera Cup and Porsche Supercup.

??? Wasn't this the 2010 Carrera Cup car in ROW ??? At least in Germany it was.
The R is even wider and aiming at FIA GT3 competition and the like.

Am not knocking it at all - but this is the car that's been used in the Supercup for the whole of 2010 - right? So hardly new, is it?

Exactly what excuse do Porsche have for not running this as the passenger lap car at the recent Sunday Service rather than the Porkamera???????

I'd pay a lot more than a fiver for a few laps in one of those!

If those stats were for a road car, it'd get 10/10 without question; but as a track/race only car, it doesn't seem particularly special to me.
