Had my 4.0 '95 chimmy for about a year now, and its oil change time; I've established through PH that Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W-50 seems a good bet. My question is Filter; another source suggests Champion C145 or Halfords HOF 249. Can anyone confirm please. Cheers.

Can you forgive a plumber for thinking 15-50 is the price of oil? hehe

I have used Champion C145 the last couple of years. They were on sale in Halfords a couple of years ago and I bought all they had on the shelf.

Oh yeah and Mobil 1 15/50 too. biggrin

Here is a list of all the good quality after market oil filter options:

Champion: C145

Fram: PH5443

Mahle: OC261

Cooper: Z1159

Crosland: 5032

Its a personal preference thing but I always use the original Range Rover filter as its only a few quid more.

Original: ERR3340

ERR3340 filters have a bypass valve thats set to 18 psi, many of the other filters bypass at 6-8 psi and a lot of cheaper brands don't bypass at all.

Its up to you but just watch the Britpart filters, made in Turkey in any number of sweat shops that have zero quality control.

I opened up a new one with a can opener once and found swarf and bits of Turkish newspaper inside.

The genuine LR filters are not expensive if you buy them unboxed from LR indies, I think they get them in quantity for trade and just split them out?
