Hello

I'm awaiting collection of a black car, always wanted one just for the satisfaction of having it clean and glossy, even if its just til you take the first drive on the roads again!

I know the best procedure is wash with two buckets, claybar, polish, wax... but what are the best products to use? Is it worth buying a £10 bottle of Meguiars Gold shampoo, or is it just as effective using my £3 bottle of turtlewax shampoo?

To follow I have a Meguiars clay kit which is fab... and Meguiars NXT Wax. But for in between these stages, what polish would you recommend for a deep wet-look on a black car?

Also, I will be following the polish with Meguiars NXT but it seems to act more like a sealant than a hard wax, and doesn't last too long. Would it be a good idea to apply a layer or two of NXT, and then follow with a layer of hard wax (turtlewax or simoniz for example?) over the top? A tin of that stuff is only around £6 in Halfrauds and didn't know if a hard wax would be worth the extra effort or not!

Thanks

Wash :Shampoo not too important tbh, I reccomend AutoGlymine or Megs
Clay : Megs is good stuff. Just take your time use plenty of lube and clean/turn the claybar frequently.
Polish: On a new car I'd recommend AutoGlym Radiant Wax/Super Resin Polish. Its long lasting and is really great stuff. Always produces a great shine and deep gloss. 2 coats of that and it will look stunning.
Wax :White Carnuaba min 80% pure (expensive but good) Or..
AutoGlym liquid hard wax. finish off with a coat of this to seal in the shine, and protect your paint.

Personaly, I believe you can never have enough wax! My van has all of the above and more.

Thanks for the info. Would it be worth the extra effort of waxing with Megs Liquid NXT and then afterwards applying with a coat or two of hard carnauba.... or would you just leave out the liquid NXT altogether and go straight to the hard wax? The NXT really is pretty cruddy for durability but its so much faster and easier to apply.

As you know black paint swirls if you look at it the wrong way so the best why to is to avoid cleaning it.
By that I don`t mean have a dirty car but to use a good durable sealant that will protect the paint/stay cleaner/wash easier.
A couple of good examples of these types of sealants are from Nanolex and Gtechniq.

The currently fashionable products seem to change on too regular a basis for there to be that much in it, but last time I consulted with the obsessive-compulsive community they liked Dodo Juice purple haze wax over Poorboys BlackHole for black cars. I use those and I'm happy with the results. When necessary, I also occasionally machine polish with a Menzerna polish and use AutoGlym super resin polish to fill anything I've missed.

Works well enough for me.

Hi

I believe a decent shampoo makes a big difference. AG shampoo is awful and is pretty close to washing up liquid. Make sure you buy yourself a decent ph neutral shampoo. These are kind to paint and above all, waxes. They range in price, and all are down to personal preference.

Megs clay bars are fine but really only necessary twice a year, so no need to over do it.

Poorboys black hole glaze is my favourite glaze for a dark car and works very well, at keeping dark coloured cars super wet and glossy.

winters comming up so get something strong and durable for winter. FK1000P is cheap as chips, and very good in harsh environments. Otherwise once again its all down to personal preference. There's such a huge range out there, but there prices tend to reflect who make them and there durability. I personally choose dodo juice blue velvet pro for a reasonable price very good wax. If you want something a little more posh, then swissvax BOS does a great job on dark cars too, or maybe zymol concours, though it is not as easy to apply as swissvax range. One of my personal favourites is swissvax crystal rock which works very very well on meny levels. But its all what you would like to budget on.

For example here is 612 I finished in crystal rock:

A bentley GT in concours:

A BMW M3 in BOS:

A Range Rover Kahn in glasur:

My own Mercedes C32 AMG in Blue velvet pro:

And a TT RS in Zaino treatment:

Lets face it, can you really tell the difference between waxes! If a cars is prepped right, it really only comes down to durability in waxes along with ease of use.
