Wow.

My new car that I bought on Saturday has these fitted. Has anyone else experienced them? They're pretty 'interesting' in the wet.

By 'interesting' I mean they feel like they are made of ice. Taking corners at anything slightly interesting results in me losing grip at the rear in a flash. Scary.

I'm off to price something else up before I die in a ball of Singaporean-rubber-scented flames.

Never heard of them, and I thought I'd heard of most.

I'm starting to notice some of these ultra budget tyres are exactly the same between brands, just with different names. Just what we want, more of them in the market!

I've fitted these to my 6 MPS and am very impressed:

Huge grip wet or dry and a smooth quiet ride. Better than the OEM Bridgestones and well priced which matters as you'll need another set in 12000 miles!

PS - make sure whatever you fit is Y rated, 92 LI or higher and must be XL rated due to the weight of the MPS.

I thought about the Hankook's after reading you recommending them in another thread, but I'm sure I read that they shouldn't be used in snow/ice under any circumstances?

I've got these fitted to the LS400 I bought - Anything above 1.0 leptons involves the boat swaying side to side...Struggling for grip. Shocking tyres.

Hankook Ventus Primes are no worse than any other summer tyre in ice/snow. In fact, the Ventus Primes I had on the front of the Mondeo last winter were probably better than the Bridgestone ER300 on the back.

NO!!! Just how about fitting quality tyres you cheapskate bds and halving your wet weather stopping distance! Easy as that - no speed bumps, nothing!

The trouble is that the sort of tt that fits LingLong LoveYouLongTimes or whatever I can bet is the sort of person who doesn't really care about such things - their solution: make everyone drive slowly and reduce them to their level of mediocrity.

I hate cheap ditchfinders with a passion. Should be banned.

IIRC these 'budget' tyres are being looked at very closely and due for a banning soon... though I'll be buggered if I can remember where I read this

New tyre labelling law which comes into affect at some point in the future will highlight the poor wet performance of these budget brands.

Worryingly, the new law labels the tyres on wet performance, which they'll score very badly in and fuel economy, which the budget tyres do very well in as a by product of being rock hard.

I can see it actually increasing the use of budget tyres as people will be blinkered by the low price and hi fuel saving potential, ignoring the poor wet performance.

Gah, my local tyre guy can't get the Hankook's from anywhere. They're on "back order" apparently.

I had the same problem a while back - Hankook can't keep up, a lot of car manufacturers are using their tyres as OE fit, and the aftermarket people are going mad for them too.

A good chunk of Hankook's european factory's output goes straight to Hyundai/KIA, Ford and Opel/Vauxhall.

Well, I thought I better check my tyre pressures just in case. They were all at 28psi rather than the recommended 38! Would that affect handling a great deal?

Probably more expensive than the Hankook but take a look at Vredestein Sessantas.

10psi will make a world of difference to a good tyre. Not sure how it will affect the ditch finders.

I'm a fan of the Hankook V12 Evos as well.

They are reasonably priced, wear is not too bad. I'm not the craziest of drivers, but will press on sometimes. The V12s have no nasty surprises, reasonable sidewall stiffness, good grip wet and dry, quiet, and the tread pattern looks good, not something I'd pay a lot for but nice to have.

I just had the front pair replaced, and even when the old ones had just over 1.6mm on them, they were not bad in the wet. Compared to the Nankang NS2s on when I bought the car the Hankook V12 tyres are a lot safer.

I don't have a lot of experience with lots of different tyres, but the Hankook V12s are not a bad choice in my book, may not last as long as some of the premium brands, but for price per mile compete well on all fronts as well as giving good performance. I estimate that they give around 12-15,000 miles on the front of mine, which isn't bad when all things are considered - heavy Diesel lump, 300Nm of torque, like to press on sometimes, roundabouts can be taken with some G force (when safe).
