Hello Everyone!

I'm new to this site and I'm hoping for some advice please?

I have a Peugeot 206, 1996 about 78,000 miles on it. I have been advsied that the thrust bearing on the clutch has gone. Which evidently means an entire new clutch is needed.
Apparently this is quite a common occurence in a model of this age? (Although my Husband would have me believe it is due to my heavy handling??)

I am in quandary, whether to have this replaced and hope for the best or wondered if anybody suggest that this is a good time to sell? I am worried that this is the start of my car's demise.

Thanks alot for any of your thoughts!
Sam

If the thrust bearing is failing then you'll get a squealing noise as you depress the clutch pedal which will stop when you take your foot off again. If this is your symptom then it would be foolish to not replace the entire clutch assembly given the mileage the clutch has covered already, the small extra cost for the friction and pressure plates and how much labour is involved in taking the gearbox out to do any of this work. It's not something you want to have to do again to replace the other clutch bits later.

The only way you can abuse a thrust bearing is by resting your foot on the clutch pedal while driving or holding the clutch down for long periods when stationary so as long as you don't do that it's just normal wear and tear for a vehicle of that age and mileage.

I see no reason why you should think this spells the demise of the rest of the car.

Thanks for that!
I am heavy handed on the old gear change..so the worry is that I have caused more trouble under the surface of this clutch repair, (hard to say without seeing it I know)

I have also just had the middle of the exhaust replaced so I think the panic was that, it's reached an age of "one thing after another"!

I realise this is probably boring stuff to you guy's! But its really helpful to me, so thank you for your thought.
