Ok, well for those of you who frequent "General Gassing" you may have noticed my alternator failed today, after the AA jump started me the central locking worked fine, and the voltage didn't drop from there on, although I did briefly short the positive cable with the engine block (oops)

Put it all back together and the remote doesn't work confused

I know the battery in the remote was getting low, is it likley to be that, or does the battery need reconnecting after a flat battery??

Quick way to reprogram the key to the car???

Thanks in advance!

I will buy a battery for the remote tomorrow and see if that fixes it!

Does the remote work at all or it the central locking that's not working?

Get a new battery in the fob regardless then put it in the barrel and turn the ignition on (dut don't start it) then alternately press lock/unlock half a dozen times each. That will often sort it. If not it's to the dealer for a re-code!

EDIT: for spooling, cold fingers!

Central Locking working, just not remotely!

Will try to get a new battery today, then try your fix!

Want to avoid the dealer if possible, just cost me £150 for the bloody alternator!

Thanks thumbup

If the ignition recode doesnt work then stick the key in the door (when the car is locked). Press and hold the unlock button on the fob whilst turning the key to unlock. Keep it held for a second longer. The red light in the door know should start flashing and thats i recoding. If it still doesnt work then i'd suggest a reboot of the ECU:

Disconnect battery
Leave for 90 seconds.
Reconnect battery.
Recode stereo and date/time.

Done!

If still unsuccesfull, then they obvious battery change in the fob may be the answer. Fobs very rarely fail so dont be drawn in by the stealers.

Having changed the bloody alternator I would charge at least that, what a son of a bh!

Can't find the batteries anywhere, going to try the VW dealer eek at lunchtime to see if they have any (well it's basically the same key!)

Know it's a bit late after the event, but for that sort of battery/button cell try Asda first - be a lot cheaper .

I tried this and my Mini actually responded to it for once! All the other reprogramming ways that's have been recommended I get nothing.. however it still doesn't respond when I press the buttons on the remote. The battery had been changed it's an r50 mini with the 3 buttons on the key (rechargeable battery).is it the receiver?! It's driving me crazy.
