I'm looking at a 997 2S this weekend at Cridfords in Surrey.
Does anyone have experiences with them?
Would you pay for an independent inspection when buying from an established Porsche dealer?
Also they are offering an extended 1 year warrenty for £450?

They are very close to OPC West Byfleet (ex Camtune), like 6/7 miles or so. I think you would be better of with an OPC warranty and they will, I am sure, permit you to have the car 111 point inspected by the OPC which will give you added peace of mind and, if the C2S needs work, some leverage to reduce the price.

Thanks for the replies. I already did a ph search.
Not a lot of negatives. There is only one post where someone was not too happy with the service, but nothing specific.

A good mate bought a car from them. From experience I would advise:

- Check that the service history is *exactly* as stated. Some people seem to have differing views on what FPSH actually means.
- Make sure that road tax is arranged in advance of collection.

Regards,

Gary.

Bought my Boxster from them in July and was very happy with everything. No waffle, car was as described and has been absolutely no problem since.

More than happy to buy a car from them in the future.

Look up the Naming and Shaming policy on PH.

Bought my 986 S from them. OK to deal with, but as advised check service history. Also, the warranty isn't really worth the paper it's written on. A lot of exemptions.

Be as careful as you would be buying privately.

What do you mean. Cridfords is a Porsche specialist dealership?

Yes. And you should be as careful buying a car from them as you would buying privately.

I've bought 2 cars from them, a 996 C4S and just recently a 997 C4S Cab and I've been happy with both cars. They also bought the 996 back from me at a very fair price. They've been in business for a long time selling Porkers so I guess they must be doing something right. One major factor in their favour is that their prices are not far above private prices unlike certain other indies which seem to price their cars at OPC levels. I do agree with other poster's comments. Its wise to check and agree everything. My car was advertised with full FPSH but I didnt find out until I'd bought the car that one of the services had been carried out at a non-OPC garage, albeit a respected one. I haven't had cause to test their warranty conditions, thank God. I would advise that you get any car inspected and certainly, Cridfords have no objection to that. The fact is though, that if you want complete peace of mind, it would be safer to buy from an OPC but you'll pay an extra £5-10k for the privilege
Which C2S are you looking at? If its the silver one, I drove that before buying the C4S Cab, and it seemed a good honest car that drove well. I was quite tempted by it due to its attractive price. But I'm definitely no expert so you'll have to make your own assessment

Thank you very much for your relply!
Real happy someone who actually traded with them commented.
And it is a Slate Gray one with 23K on the clock from 06 I'm looking at.
Any good suggestions for an inspection as you recently bought your car there?

From reading the comments over the years, it would seem that many have a good experience of Cridfords and some do not. If it were me, I'd consider buying from them but would exercise a lot of diligence. Get the car inspected by someone who is independent and make sure everything checks out yourself. Service history, HPI, model/options etc etc.

I have traded with them.

I think you are assuming that because no one has said anything negative that everything is ticketyboo.

Like I said, buy from them but be as careful as you would if buying privately.

Sorry to disappoint, not going to be a HWM thread. :-) And from Cridfords.... Nope just trying to get a fell for them before going down to see them this weekend.
I just never got around to using the PH forum, but I can see it's a great place!
Also really impressed with all the advise in such a short space if time.

I understand what you are saying, and will make sure to careful.
Obviously it's hard to understand the negative experiences due to the naming and shaming policy.
