I picked up the new outriggers last night, bit of a shock that they were £220 but they are good.

If you look very carefully you can just see the difference between old and new smile

I just need to temparary fit them with the inserts and give them some lovely new paint protection before fitting

How do you fit them to the chassis , weld presumably , so that means Grp is well clear of joins , any pics ?

Not the best picture in the world, inserts are welded into the ends and slotted into remaining chassis tubes. First trial fit was real tight and almost doesn't need welded.smile Not the easiest job to fit on my own but struggled and got it on.

I also drilled some holes in the tubes to take some extra weld on the inserts, if that makes sense. Finished painting nearside tonight so will fit and weld it on tomorrow. When welding I will sheild the underfloor with a sheet of stainless just in case

I bet the owner of your average 20 odd year-old tin sports car wished his repair sections only cost £220. hehe

Keep up the good work. thumbup

When i was at the ford specialist a while back they had a MK1 capri that someone brought in and wanted the body widened, the arches made bigger and all the panels and chassis restored.. the shell does look amazing but has cost £30,000..The same guy has donated a mint GT550 mustang as a donor for engine..The guy is obviously rich but off his rocker..the mustang is awesome..I suppose there is method to madness..

Drivers side in the vice, inserts welded in and paint drying, (excuse the TG cool wall smile)

Passenger side on and painted, but needs done again on the joining tubes. What a real bh of a job on ya own and working on the floor. Doable, but up and down, in and out is hard work. Think I need to get some mates.
While laying underneath welding, I got a rather nasty welding spark jump into my ear yikes Didn't half make me jump up real sharp, catching my jumper on the vice handle, knocking me back down to the floor. Not funny at the time but Mrs TT got the giggles about it when she EVENTUALLY fetched me a cup of tea

Front suspension rebuilt, new bushes and AVO adjustable coilovers, getting dirty off all the grinding and welding.

The original top suspension mount is butchered away to weld and bolt a bracket to carry the top of the shocker.

The bottom suspension arm also needs to be butchered a bit.

Only one side was cut like this, a 10mm x 50mm slot was cut in the other to allow the bracket to slip through to be welded.
This side had a strap weleded accross the top, connecting the lower arm to the bracket, effectevly making a 1/4 of the top a solid item, hope that makes sense?

COOL WALL, no wedge on that as it only goes as low as sub zero smile

Oh the sure pleasure of being able to do it on a lift.

Looks like you have used stainless steel to make the outriggers, welding stainless to mild steel I thought was a no no.
My tubes are galvanised but the square section isn't, should still see me out though smile

No, not stainless! Roll cage!

Not too worried about future rot really, 1. I don't intend using the car in the wet, 2. It doesn't rain here that often anyway, 3. No salt on the roads!

Indeed! I own a '62 MGA too and have belonged to the local classic car club for a while. We had a Xmas meet on Sunday and I took the wedge for the first time and I think most of the guys were looking at it scratching their heads!

nice job TimboNZ, how come though you did not use box section for outside, as per original.

Ummmm, dunno really! I didn't think it really mattered so didn't give it a lot of thought!
