Someone tell me I'm not the only one who notices a more distinct flickering from the LEDs on the back of the Peugeot 308CC? At least I think it's the 308CC; it's the one that has two 45° strips of LEDs.

All other LED lights don't seem to be too bad but these ones seem to flicker really badly. Am I going mad?

Pugs and Fiats all seem to flicker horribly even if they are only slightly out of my line of sight, I can't say I have noticed that model especially.

Sure they're not just braking hard? All new cars do that now, it's a safety feature (which saved me going up the arse of a brand new E-class a few months back).

Yes, because they weren't brake lights.

This is because a lot of modern vehicle with LED rear lights pulse width modulate the lamps to get the lower intensity of side lights.

Turn on the LEDs continuously for brake light, then for side lights turn them half on and half off very fast, this is why they appear to flicker.

I've noticed this from the new Astra, several times.

i've noticed on top gear a lot of LED rear lights flickering when they do car tests- I think the shutter speed of the cameras picks up the flickering.

I was thinking last night - i quite dislike LED indicators, after watching a merc pull out from a junction. When a standard tungsten bulb flashes on an indicator, it gets gradually brighter, then gradually darker, and so on. The actual period of time the light is off, is actually quite minisule.

But with LED indicators, they're either on or off, no inbetween, so they're a good second or so or de-illumination. Probably just me, but when at a busy junction, like the magic roundabout, you can easily miss an LED indicatored car out of the corner of your eye

I've started to notice this now on brake lights, and harder braking seems to cause more flashing, but was behind some new corsa the other day which even on light braking in town was doing this LED flashing, totally uneccesary, much like LED DLR's.

New Astra has problems with the brake light switch, disco brake lights galore.

Ah. That explains the one I saw yesterday morning. Not good for a new car, I thought to myself, but I'll forgive them if there's a recognised problem!

I had an Astra for 3 months, the brake lights flickering was one of the more minor problems. And on my auto model, the flickering was felt through the lever by the park override thing.
