No. but the book always advises that 1000m per litre is common.

Some use oil and some don't I think a lot may be to do with when they are built. Generally cars will have 3 tolerances on Bore and Piston size, I have a feeling that some cars may be assembled with smallest piston tolerance to largest Bore and hence use a bit more oil.

I have ran many Audi's My first 2.8 20v Quattro used about 1 ltr per thousand miles. The next S4 never used any, 2 x 2.0 Tdi's.. one used oil and one didn't. My current 2.0t FSi doesn't.

Its never a problem as long as you check the oil once per week.

It's known but it's not a problem really, even tells you about it in the owners manual.

~1l in 1k miles, less if you're gentle, more if you hoof it. Cam covers can leak a bit on the V8s but that wouldn't lose a great deal of oil.

How did you manage to get 20 valves in a V6 or was that meant to be 1.8???

VAG suggest 1L of oil per 1,000 kilometres is acceptable use.

Anyhow
Oil loss isn't a problem on Audis if you raise that flat thing at the front occasionally and look at the yellow handled thing that goes into the metal thing underneath the engine.

Mine's getting through about 1L per 1000 miles. Be interesting to see how much she gets through at Silverstone in Feb.

i have a first generation S4 and it has a bit of a thirst as well, a litre per 1000miles is frightening, mostly down to the breather setup i believe. The crankcase breather spits it out under a bit of boot, varies on the engine but it goes back in at the throttle body on some cars. There was a thread on s2forum (numerous of experiments with a catch tank). brand new tank, idle car, check tank nothing, take car for a 2-3 mile drive and boot it 2-3 times and 50ml in the bottom of the tank, so that should answer why it does it i would hope. Assuming Audi still have the same breather setup.

The good news to a degree is that its fairly likely the engine isnt burning it, that freaked me out for the first few months of ownership!

really?! that is a fair old whack. I wonder if a car would get to the end of its long life programme without running the sump dry!

Think it's 'worst case' scenario.

I've been using a litre every 2,500-3,000 miles over the last two years.

I'll take a few top up bottles and see how it goes, I'm actually bored thinking about it so I'm now also doubting how interesting it will actually be.

Looking forward to seeing how it goes on the track, going with a group of about 10 911s all of which will be trying to prove to me that I made a mistake buying the R8 hehe

The screenwash bottle generally empties and the tyres run a bit flatter as well in between the dealer lifting the bonnet rolleyes

I took a V10 R8 around Silverstone in April - great fun! Enjoy!

No, its all true! Everyword, they use giant hoovers which draw in all matter around or near the engine bay...
