New Car - Seal Grey 996T
Discussion
Well what started off as a bit of a pipedream, that then went onto an ambition, eventually a target is now finally.............reality!
Only had the car just under 2 months but even with limited driving (thanks to the weather) I'm still buzzing, smiling and having the odd chuckle to myself ( no not lost the plot just yet! ) at the power delivery which makes the hard graft and saving up all worth the while.
Many of you will know that this was Neil Allans - a member off here that looked and tuned the car with great attention of detail and care.
Three years ago after a year into business I set a target, a target for a car I've always dreamed about and above all make it happen! As those who are self employed know that your business is not a job, its a way of life, and it takes up 95% of it, so at times a target keeps you on track and makes you remind yourself why your doing it when your having one of those bad days!
Like most die hard dubbers you always have a soft spot for the Stuttgart machine's. A 911 Turbo for me was always the one, mainly a 993! At the time they were in my price range....but the world of the aircooled porsche second hand market can have its weird and wonderful ways and today they are now approx 7 - 10K more than they were back then! A dated interior and not the most daily of supercars swayed me off also.
So what would offer good looks, reliablity, and be a good practical daily with also having that bonkers performance of the 911 for my specific budget? In my opinion it had to be the 996 Turbo.
Long story short, plans were to buy a standard 'best I could afford' manual 996T in black, yellow or grey. I purchased coilovers that were once on this car, previous owner gave me excellent buying and tuning advice then around 1 month later asked if I was interested in buying his very own car. Way over my budget, but with over 25k been thrown at her, excellent history and alot of the mods I was going to carry out already ticked off, it was hard to say no!
Rough Spec is as follows:
GT2 Front Bumper
Mashaw GT2 Rear Spoiler
6pot 375mm Front brakes + Rear brakes
19" BBS LM's
GT2 K24 turbos with the Bell cored coolers
and Forge divertor valves
SFS boost hoses and F pipe
Miltek exhaust and manifolds
Remapped
997 GT3 short shift
GT3 roll bars
Adjustable rosejointed drop links front and rear
Adjustable Camber Arms
Moton Clubsports with uprated topmounts.
Looking forward to a track day once I get the hang of the engine and drive coming from the rear, hard to get your head round when you have been used to it all from the front! Really interested for a rolling road too, should hopefully be between 500bhp - 550 bhp.
Sorry for the very poor Iphone pics. Planning a few road trips so more photos to follow in up coming months.

Cheers

this is absolutely stunning. Reminds me as to how much the 996 tt is the great buy of the moment. Spend a bit of money to extract all the performance 'hidden' inside the car and a few tastefull aesthetic upgrades. Stunning. Well done. I take it it is lower than standard? By how much?

I too have recently started in business and hope to post a similar thread in the next 5 years.
Congrats and enjoy!
My story is very similar to that of the OP, and I too, have recently realised the dream and bought a 996 Turbo. Congrats and enjoy!

Firstly, those pictures do not do that car any justice. Secondly, it's stunning.
Agreed.OP - here is some better shots of your car...

Thanks for the comments folks!
jabriel - All the best in your business venture!
erics - Yep , your spot on, standard 996's look good, but a few tweaks here n there and they can look stunning. Im sure Neil had it close to GT2 ride height, maybe 10mm lower, rubs quite easily though.
Swoxy - Yes photos are ghastly, better pics soon though. I was going to take her somewhere else but night was drawing in - personally think the yard is a good theme?
monthefish - jeez you know the car well?!! Thanks for the pics! I approached Neil as he was selling coilovers which I bought as I knew it was the 1st mod to do for when I got round to buying my own, he then emailed me as he was already giving me some advice to tell me he was selling, was over my budget but really had nothing to think about as I could see clearly it had been so well looked after by both previous owners with a lot of money spent to boot. You local?
Tino - When I get time I will, mostly into Mk2 Golf and Corrados but almost had everything with a VW badge. Pm sent btw.

I feel like a bit of a stalker on your car.
It is a lovely thing, and does appear to have been well looked after and had plenty of money lavished on it.
I remember when Robin had it, and was very tempted to buy it when if was for sale at Kenny Dunns, but didn't have the funds at the time, and bloody Neil Allan snapped it up before I managed to secure a good price for my granny!!
I met a chap (PH'er jj996) at the Nurburgring who also had a GT2 kitted seal grey turbo, and, although I was dead set on getting a black one, I realised I'd probably be just as happy in seal grey after seeing his.
