Fast on the back of my question around the difference between a lightweight Cerbera and a 'normal' 4.5 Cerbera..........

Whats the difference between a T350 Red Rose built by the factory and a 'normal' T350....and does anyone know how many genuine factory-built T350 Red Rose's there are, both Coupe and Targa?

From my limited knowledge..

The T350 (3.6) red rose has the following:
Uprated 3.6 engine..not sure of the output..I have read 375 bhp.
Big bore exhaust system
Larger front and rear (costly upgrade) brakes
Hydratrack diff
Some had the optional lighter body shell
A very limited number were also available with 4.0 / 4.0S engine
There were Targa and Coupe Red Rose upgrades

I don't think the factory ever officially offered the 4.0 litre engine as part of the red rose package, though I believe that a few left the factory with these engines. It was rumoured that the red rose variants were lighter by c 40kg due to some vinylester body parts but I don't think this has ever been proven / confirmed.

I have a factory 4.0'S' Red Rose...with all the paperwork / original specs.

It does not have the 'vinylester body', but does have the uprated diff, exhaust and brakes.

It was built for a personal friend of Ben Samuelson (marketing director of TVR)..I am aware of another 'standard 4.0' Red Rose which I was looking at when I bought mine.

Probably the 3.9, with upgrades being the 3.7 and 3.4.

A standard diff is a Non Hydratrak limited slip

To the best of my knowledge, a 3.9 was never factory fitted. Most were 3.46, a lucky few (but many of the latter cars)were 3.73.
The Red Rose would probably have been fitted with the CR gearbox, 3.73 diff from the fcatory. Be very suprised if they shipped any CR equipped cars with the higher diff.

FYI - Both the CR gearbox and lightened body were optional extras for Red Rose package

Hi
in case it ever comes onto to the market my 2004 grigio titanio T350T (see my garage I sold in Oct 2004) was originally a 4.0S with

Factory fit Tuscan 'S' Brakes
Factory fit large Bore Exhaust System
Factory fit Tuscan 4.0S engine
It did not have the vinylester lightweight body.

Original reg was WA04 JOJ.

Long time ago now but the 4.3 engine from Str8six in my current Tamora feels substantially stronger than the 4.0S did in my T350.

When I specced mine the CR box/lightweight body was an either/or option.

Of course - that would make perfect sense. "Would you like your Beemer with satnav or electric windows sir?" laugh Do you think that a) They didn't actually have a lightweight targa body and were bluffing; confident you'd go with the CR box or b) There were 2 orders and one pile of RR bits.... God bless 'em...

I have a T350C '53 which the vendor claimed was a red rose, 3.6.

The car recently spent some time with Str8six, and i had a long conversation about the 'red rose' upgraded cars with Jason who used to build st. six engines in the Blackpool factory.

He explained that TVR started making a more powerful RR 3.6L engine, and combined this with uprated brakes, biggger bore tuscan s exhaust and some with a lighter weight body.

However, the time to prepare the 3.6L engine was too much, so a decision was made to fit the cars with the 4.0 or 4.0S Tuscan engine.

I found out that despite the VIN plates, my car does have a 4.0S engine, biggrin lighter body, sag brakes and large bore exhaust. I was a grinning 10 year old again!

Is there an easy way to check what upgrades the car has, even if not specifically ordered, e.g. difference between standard and upgrade brakes

Mine started out as a genuine Red Rose 4.0S from the factory. I ordered from new and have the spec sheet and build photos when I saw it being built at the factory.

Vinylester Body is visible if you look at the weave in the inside of the bonnet (and it's more flimsy) Larger spec brakes have the same size calipers but are 322mm in diameter, rears are larger as well. The rest of it will should be gleaned by looking at the engine number (it will either have 36 or 40 in it) and looking at the tag on the diff (hydratrak and ratio). Finally, the down pipes should be larger diameter into the back box as well. Although it has been stated not all Red Rose cars had all of these options (the vinylester body shell was an extra £4k alone, so not many people went for it.)

Engine number will not be a positive indication of engine size.
