Has anyone got any experience with MCE insurance brokers. They always come up with the best quotes on comparison sites and i have my moped insured with them. I found it really hard to make contact when i wanted to switch bikes last time i tried. I wonder if this is usual and if they are to be avoided. I have a proper bike now and want good quality insurance to cover me. Can anyone recomend a good firm to try for a quote.

Real test comes when you go to make a claim. I'm with MCE currently, but haven't had to go through a claims process, so can't really tell you what they're like in that respect. Got no complaints otherwise.

The reviews on the net are what scare me off.

yea this is what i found when looking round for insurance, but if you google round any insurance company it's mostly bad reviews for all of them! As people dont bother to post if there happy with something.
What put me off mce was the stupid admin fee's for changing details etc.

+1

I am with MCE too. Annoying thing about them is the amount of errors they make on policy documents (name spelling, purchase dates of bikes etc.). It costs money each time you call them too.

You do get free RAC breakdown cover included in the price. Apprently that have a new policy where they ask for photocopies of both parts of your driving licence once you have taken out the policy.

As the Steve Evil said the real test is claiming. Does anyone have any information on how the claims process is like with MCE?

I was with MCE when I crashed my Ducati frown

No problems with claims - an assessor was sent round within a week, the bike was taken away to a body shop for closer inspection the same week. The bike was declared an economic write-off due to cost of parts. There was a bit of a delay, as the body shop forgot to send their report to MCE and the file was still 'open' on the system. MCE were very apologetic about it and got the loose ends tied up very quickly and got a cheque out to me - total time to settle was about 3 weeks. Can't really fault them at all.

My remaining bike (the Honda) has been sat in my garage since my crash, and I'm working offshore for the next 5 weeks, so I haven't renewed my policy. I'm getting nightmares about the quotes I'll be getting when I get back though!

I'm with ebike and if you read the reviews of them on the net it doesn't look good, however when I made a claim for theft there was no real issues I'm happy enough with them.

A very very long story short...

I used MCE, they took my money, they didnt effect the insurance, after 1 yr claim free I realised I had had no insurance, or NCB, not on MID etc.

Currently with solictors and FSA

I am now with Bennetts

A shower of absolute aholes. Their customer service makes BT look like shining lights in comparison (and they're st!)

My advice: stay well clear! They might be cheaper, but you'll never get through to theor "customer services" (Ha!) and they genrally have the mental aptitude of pond life and you'll speand the rest of the year on hold listening to some tart talking about how MCE is a main sponser of Superbike racing.

Beleive me when I say this: stay well clear.

With them now, wouldn't use them again...

Had my bike nicked the other month, have the policy doc's a brief look on inception, nothing untoward...after it got nicked I checked them more thoroughly, only by cross referencing a code after the event did I find I had a £1,500 theft excess on a bike I bought for £1,250...

Knew nothing if the scale prior...thankfully it was recovered, police pound fee paid and back on the road for ~£400...the new almax chain should prevent reoccurrence and come September I'll be getting insurance elsewhere...

I've used MCE previously, never had an issue with them....

I'm with Bennett now and have been last couple of years and prior to MCE too. Bennetts policy was better and having claimed with Bennett I can tell you they are bloody good to deal with and my premiums never went up by much at all

Gang of helmets.

I was with them for my first year just because they were by far the cheapest. Swapped for my 2nd as it was £10 more for a reputable company which I have my car insurance with. Sadly I've had to go with them again when I swapped to the R1 as others just didn't come anywhere close on price. I shall be swapping again as soon as I can.

They are the worst company I've ever had to deal with. I just have my fingers crossed I never have to claim.

It seems to be the way of things - we buy on price (and we're happy), we are told the service is crap, so we are unhappy.

But next time, we will still buy on price.

And I'm as guilty as the next person for that.

MCE were great on price when I was looking to renew my Speed Triple but were £1500 excess...
Called Carole Nash to price match which they did and I stayed with them.

I was with them for my policy last year. Never had any issue with them, pretty much always got straight through to someone if i needed to talk to them. That said, i never needed them to sort out a claim so i don't know what they're like on that front.

Didn't go with them this year as they couldn't get anywhere near a quote from Carole Nash, but they sent me through my proof of no claims within 24hours of the policy ending.

One very annoying thing they did do though, was about 2 weeks before my policy ran out, they'd ring me every single day, despite someone answering and telling them i was at work 8am-6pm so call back later, they'd persistently phone around lunchtime when i wasn't in. After 4 days, i called them back myself (it was to discuss renewal quotes), realised they were too expensive so told them i would go elsewhere. They still phoned me for the following 3 days but did stop after i called customer services and asked them to leave me alone!
