Hi All,

I wondered what your opinion is of this offer from BMW emailed to me today.

It is a new offer approved by BMW and fitted by selected BMW dealers... I am keen on a little more performance from my 120D. It is still under warranty so haven't taken it to the known tuners, but this offer doesn't affect the BMW warranty.

____________________________________________________________________________

THE BMW PERFORMANCE 120d MANUAL ENGINE TUNING KIT IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR JUST £1,100.

As someone who owns a high–performance BMW 120d, you have already shown a keen interest in cutting–edge driving technologies. That’s why we thought you might like to hear about our latest offer on the BMW Performance 120d manual tuning kit. For a limited time, at participating dealers, this kit is available at £1,100 including all the hardware, software and dealer fitting.

The additional hardware is one of the things that sets our impressive kits apart from anything else on the market. While other manufacturers’ tuning products merely change the software, BMW tuning kits provide additional hardware to handle the extra forces, such as heat, placed on the engine.

Bearing all this in mind, this price represents stunning value for the extra exhilaration that comes with the added edge in performance. Just take a look at the figures: an extra 20 hp, 40 Nm of torque and 3 mph top speed over the standard engine. But perhaps most impressive of all is the 0.5 seconds sliced off the 0–62 mph time. All this and yet the emission levels remain the same, your vehicle warranty remains intact and parts and labour benefit from a two year warranty.

WHAT'S IN THE KIT?

BMW Performance Engine Plaque.
BMW Performance Control Unit.
600W Engine Cooling Fan.
Additional Air Pipe.
Larger Air Cooler and Associated Components.

BENEFITS:
• Improved power output
• Increased torque (+40 Nm).
• Improved acceleration (-0.5 seconds from 0-62 mph).
• The perfect way to boost your BMW 120d engine’s performance.

Shop around. There is sure to be a discount on that price. I think it's the best way to go for a remap with the proper hardware and warranty.

I was contemplating it for the wifes car myself. You really need to hear from someone that has it though, as it's a lot of dosh for 20bhp.

If you go for it please post your findings.

It's a lot of money .... but you get to keep your BMW warranty and it *should* be excellent ... I can't imagine BMW marketing it unless it was well sorted. With the cooling fan and uprated intercooler I guess they have had a good think about it smile

I am interested in it for the auto but understand that needs a new torque converter which sounds expensive compared to the manual.

Oh, and FWIW I believe it is a new ECU as opposed to a remap.

I like the idea that BMW seem to address improved cooling with the additional hardware, as undoubtedly they are raising the boost pressure - Yes looks like a new ECU too!

Pricey yes but getting hardware to improve cooling (rather than just raising boost & fuelling)and warranty remains intact, possibly goes some way to explain price (certainly worth shopping around tho').

My car does 25-30k pa so I am liking the "cover all bases" approach, hopefully retaining reliability and longevity.

Will see what the impact will be on my insurance tomorrow.

Not after big power gains, just a bit more overtaking punch - Very tempted.

A bit like me ... I am waiting for the dealer to come back to me. It's either a remap or a 330d/335d biggrin

Additional £50 on annual insurance premium... I can live with that.

Has anyone on here had this done yet?

I think all the dealers should have demos fitted with this kit so ask for a drive.

We have a 123d and those figures with the extra 20bhp must take it similar to that, the 123d is a great car, pretty quick, rapid overtaking etc but as said it is alot of money for that gain.

I would ask BM what added monetary value if any it adds, see if that reduces the initial hit you will take.

I doubt it will be listed in glasses guide as an option, therefore it wont add anything to the resale value.

Its one of the reasons why i prefer (on occassions) a tuning box. You can simply unplug them and take them to your next car. I had one box that was on two 320d's, a 520d, a 318d and a 120d.

The cost for the auto is (according to Cotswold BMW) £1300 more than the manual one - as in on top of the cost of the manual kit due to the torque converter being changed ... that is one hell of a lot of money for 20 bhp !!!!

I believe any BMW dealer will do it .... the kit is around £1200 for the manual but £2500 for the auto - thus, as my car is auto I am leaving it well alone !!

The offer came direct from BMW GB by email.

My understanding is only select BMW dealers have access to this offer: Vines & Woods I know do, Sytners too I think.

£1,100 may look steep at first look but this isn't just an ECU flash, you get hardware too to ensure temps stay well within tolerances ensuring longer term reliability and hence BMW warranty remains intact.

A 20bhp gain is modest but 40NM more torque should be clearly felt.

BMW do an upgrade for the 520d which is supposed to be absolutely amazing - but they only offer it in Germany.

I don't think the price is steep for the manual version given what is done ... but £2500 for 20bhp on an auto is silly money ...

Hi,

I had this fitted to my 120d M Sport Coupe yesterday and I'm immediately impressed by the noticable power gain. The car is even more responsive than before and also sounds slightly different, more of a growl.. The rev counter FLIES around the dial and the improvement in acceleration is most satisfying

I agree that it's expensive but I didn't want to jeopordise my warranty, this seemed the best way to go..

Minus points:
The dealer could have been better.
I didn't get any print outs of the cars new curves or any real technical data.
I'd have liked to talk to the tech but he wasn't available.
Not sure yet but I suspect that the auto stop start functionality might have stopped working.

If people are interested I'll share more info on this kit as it becomes apparent to me smile

Cheers
