Hi,
It looks messy and can not mute the system or come through the cars original speaker system.
Get a Mobridge Bluetooth kit...£660 plus vat fitted. I know it's expensive but it all works !
Mike
How come it cant be muted or use the car speakers?...I thought that was the whole point of the Parrot kit?...It looks messy and can not mute the system or come through the cars original speaker system.

I'd love to get the Mobridge but it is a bit on the pricey side for me....

I fitted a mObridge to my 996 and have had nothing but trouble with it. I wouldn't recommend one.
Hi,What trouble ?
As for the mute and speaker option..some PCM units had the mute function (think early 996 PCM2.0 but then they did not after that ?) Also the speaker option is on a fibre optic system so not sure how that would intergrate as when we used to fit them there was no option for it..maybe things have progressed ? Funny as the Mobridge use's a Parrot chipset !

I agree, the mObridge solution is the best retrofit module for PCM2.It looks messy and can not mute the system or come through the cars original speaker system.

Although, I've previously had a parrot kit fitted too and with a 'proper' wiring harness it does mute the PCM as well as put the sound through the original speakers.
mObridge is definitely best though. IMO go for the mObridge option that has iPod connectivity too - better value for money.
New to all this hands free luxury in a Porsche [ does nt bear thinking abt in current Cup Car!] However in later more comfortable model have a Blue Magic, blutooth £450 fitted works on everything imaginable, all through origianl 'panel' on dash .................fitted in Harpenden area ............fitting Guy was amazing .
Simple replacement box for under seat , original can always be replaced .Disconnected battery , fiddled a bit done in 20 mins .........

I have PCM 2 in my MY04 996 and if the mObridge worked well it would be ideal for me, but it is very poor. The issues I have (had):
1) when listening to the radio/ipod or even on the phone the system appears to reset itself at random. What I mean by this is if I am listening to the radio all sound cuts out, I lose all signal strength on the screen for the phone. If I am listening to the ipod as it comes back on line it says loading CD. The drop out and reset procedure lasts about 3-4 seconds before it all comes back on line.
2) The ipod confirmation button doesn't work with the right hand rotary button which is the obvious button to use. It only works by double pressing the ">>" but even them it takes me about 4-5 goes as it seems that I can never press it fast enough.
3) After getting it to change a playlist for example it seems very laggy in between confirmations.
4) Only last Sunday when I was driving along my phone says it was connected to the mObridge unit and when my phone rang the mObridge unit didn't respond and I missed the call because I couldn't get it out of my pocket in time. The system simply didn't work.
5) I have had it where the first call has worked fine but when rung 5 minutes later the system wouldn't answer the call and it kept on ringing as if I refused to answer it.
There are numerous other "wierd" things it has done that I have forgotten about. I have updated the latest parrot and bluetooth software on it off the mObridge web site but it is no better. The system is pretty rubbish in my experience. I hope mObridge read this post and hold their head in shame as such a crappy bit of gear that they charge top dollar for. I can't see myself buying another and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
I bought the unit second hand and it was less than 12 month old. I suspect that the guy I bought it from who had it fitted to a Cayenne experienced the same sort of problems, hence selling it. mObridge don't offer help witout you buy a unit brand new from an euthorised dealer.
Unfortunately nobody seems to do anything good, so I am stuck with it.
Hi
I've had the Parrot fitted to my 2007 997 TT.
The main issue is that it uses the Parrot's own amplifier and not the Bose one so the music playback is pretty grim. I have a long commute and use it to play audiobooks and for that purpose it is fine.
Apart from that it uses the car's speakers and mutes fine. The phone and voice dialling works well on a Bluetooth pair with my Iphone 3.
The head unit is in the glovebox so it is unobtrusive.
You will need a special wiring loom ordering. Halfords organised the whole thing at a cost of around £350.
Cheers

If the HF phone is your main concern I would recommend a Parrot Minikit. works as well as any other parrot but non invasive.
Downside is needs cable charging every 2/3 weeks in normal use, and doesn't mute the radio.
Advantages, self switching off, excellent charge life, full function, can be used in more than one car easily, doesn't need interference with car's systems.
Also, cheapest to fit at £50 or so.

I asked Porsche about doing likewise in mine (also a 2007 997 TT) and they said that'd it would cause me a warranty issue if I got it fitted. Do you mind me asking whether they gave you a different answer? I've had the Parrot fitted to my 2007 997 TT.

The price included the additional wiring loom and fitting. Its a 9100 unit. Im only wanting it for phone calls rather than Ipod function.....
Thanks!
The head unit is fitted in the glovebox and the remote is attached to the gear lever.
My car is out of warranty so not too worried about that aspect.
Cheers
My system played up again tonight. The phone rang but nothing from the PCM unit. The phone was still paired with the mObridge. So I disconnected the connection and yet the PCM said I was still connected! Tried to dial a number and it wouldn't do anything. I then reconnected my phone and still no response.
It will probably come right once the MOST shuts down.
