Is this a DIY job? or will disconnecting the battery totally send the computers into meltdown?!
Aston dealer have quoted £250+ for a new battery fitted.
Would you trust a local battery fitter?

sounds like the price of a battery and an hours labour ...probably about what it takes if you are a dealer, inc giving it back clean etc

looking at the manual seems like DIY to me if you want to save £150 labour smile

Do you have to press the re-set button after this ? only I know how fussy the system is if it's touched.

If you're worried about losing any settings you could always keep the battery charger / conditioner attached, current C-TEK chargers have a setting to let them maintain the car without its battery being connected.

the above was copied n paste straight from the workshop manual, no mention of any resetting anything...likely you have to reprogram the stereo settings I guess

Hi, I'm after a bit of assistance!

I'm trying to replace the battery on my Vantage, but getting the old one out is proving to be a nightmare.

The above instructions were really useful and it was all going really well until I tried to remove the 2x sliding clamps at the front. I can see that they simply slide off to the left, but there is a piece of trim blocking the way so they won't come off. I can't for the life of me figure out how to move the trim to allow the clamps to slide off.

I'm sure I'm being a bit simple but any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark

It is a bit like a Chinese puzzle but they do slide off the rail once the trim is placed out of the way.

re-awakening an old thread ... but proper thanks for conviction that this can indeed be done ... Was trying desperately to work out how to get the aluminium runners off the bottom off the battery mount. They obviously weren't going to come off in the direction of the transmission tunnel, therefore, there was only 1 other option ... they had to come off the other way.

Door sill off (2 further torx screws under the dedication plate .. !), then side trim off to give enough access to work the wiring loom just enough out of the way in order to slide the runners off.

Anyone else in the same position ... you're doing the right thing, just need to persevere ... !

Proper sense of accomplishment (albeit a 2.5 hr battery change ..... !)

I won't have the patience, tools or technical ability to follow these instructions. Wonder how many labour hours the dealer/indie would charge to change the battery?

Door sill off?! Clamps on mine went past the trim with a bit of wiggling, didn't have to remove any additional trim. Sounds like the loom on yours may have been in a different position.

Hi- I am new to this forum and have owned my 09 Vantage for about a year now. I just got back from vacation and my battery is dead. It was struggling to start a week prior so I was not suprised that it was completely non responsive. We tried jumping the car with no luck. I have purchased a replacement battery, DieHard AGM style which was listed as a direct replacement for the car. (See link below) After getting through the entire battery install, we realized there is no vent on the top of this battery. Is it okay to use this style battery since it is sealed or do I need to purchase a new vented battery like the original. I have been searching for information and have found a lot out there, but nothing specifically about the vent needing to be used if it is a sealed battery. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I cannot think of any reason that you cannot use a no no-vented battery,

I cant believe its more than 30mins if you have done it before and theres a spare pair of hands in the workshop ....

Im going to get a new battery this year at service time, mine is 10 years old now, still seems fine, but will give the car a treat smile

My 2007 V8V needs a new battery, thanks folks for the info above regarding fitment.

As far as batteries go, I know nothing. This one seems like a very good spec and very decent price?

Just to add to this.

1. It is much easier if you remove the metal piece of trim (as shown in YouTube video)

2. The piece of carpeted trim between the back of the seat and battery that you need to push down. This needs to be "manhandled" quite strongly. You need to push this trim down so it is almost flat on the floor. It will take some wiggling and force to do that. Be bold!

3. The trim to the left of the battery, will still be in the way of the battery runners. After step 2, above the top left corner of the battery you will see a screw holding the left trim piece.
Remove screw.
From the same point you removed the screw, pull down this piece of trim to release it from a catch in the top left corner.
This then allows you to pull the trim to the left of the battery towards you just enough to get the runners off.

It is uncomfortable, it takes ages, and seems a bit crazy just to remove a battery.

Replaced mine a week after I got the car last year... drove over to see a mate, wouldn't start when I went to leave, blooming embarrassing, even the TVR has never done that to me smile

Word of caution, if you have a bad back get someone in the car on the passenger side to help with the lift out, it's not a straight lift and the battery is rather heavy for an odd angle lift.....

I did my battery last weekend - it was an easy job and took about 20 mins. Very good advice by rossyl - definitely take the top piece of metal trim off, even if it is only to make it easier to lift the battery out.

The 2 clamps need a bit of wiggling, and you need to be reasonably forceful with the carpet. Be careful not to damage the loom which sits on inside of the bodywork on the left if you are using force.

I couldn't find much guidance on what battery to install, but I went for a Bosch S5 013 (above) which was £120 from Costco.

Physically it's a perfect fit against the OEM Varta, but is also rated higher (specs are 830A and 100Ah vs 680A and 90A for the Varta.
