peugeot 306 guidance required?
Discussion
Hello,
Im of course in the incorrect section should probably post in technical section but maybe i will get a quicker response here or maybe not. So here it goes currently own a peugeot 306 d-turbo with the peugeot 1.9 XUD engine and it seems that fuel consumption is rather high even taking into account the rising fuel costs. I am of the belief that the high fuel consumption can be some what attributed to the high idle (warm idle 950-980rpm) and possibly dirty egr valve. So can anyone out there point me in the right direction i.e web based guides that describe egr valve removal or idle adjustment or if anyone has any experience with the engine/related engine then please share.
Thank you for your time
Lewis.

Before you start pulling it apart I would check that the fuel use tallies. Go fill it up, all the way to the top. When it gets a decent way down fill it back up again. Ideally wait till you're near the bottom of the tank for best results.
Bear in mind that, while the D Turbo was rated as awesome in it's day (90BHP! Sounds like a petrol, honest etc) that things have moved on and the dear old D Turbo isn't actually that economical by modern standards. I think my mum's one managed about 40mpg overall until I killed it.
If you want to get working on it, I believe you can download the Hayne's from here http://www.mediafire.com/?yyoztk2wdyz
Link from another forum, I'd personally go grab a copy from Halford's

I'm no expert on these, but there is popular mod amongst some owners where they turn the fuelling up I believe(?). This may have something to with it.
This site is more to do with modding really, but they may be able to help...

Yeah, mine gave 40mpg, didn't seem to make any difference if I ragged it or not.
You can disconnect the EGR wire (iirc it's a funny connector behind the battery). Feels a bit 'boostier' with that done, although the guy from the pug forum who serviced mine said it was safer to keep it reconnected.
eta mine idled at close to 1k iirc
