I wish! But if I don't have the funds to race my own car this year, I certainly don't have the funds to be hiring a drive from the Andersens. Although Per did mention he was surprised to see me in a race suit when he saw me driving a dragster a few years back, so I'm clearly on his radar, and my glorious nitro fuelled destiny awaits me :-)

I think you will find that it wasnt DS's decision Fram wanted a younger driver for marketing reasons
Yeah, that would make sense. I don't like the decision, but ultimately, money talks.

Easy now, next there'll be calls to bring back the playpen, the bike rollers, the bloomin' Barn, turf the pits at SPR, rip out the flushing toilets and showers, move the bleachers at Shakey to the other side of the track etc. biggrin

Aside from the fact that he's uber-wedged, how is Gray going to do a better job than Cory Mac ?

Who said he could???

I think Cory Mac comes across as being really switched on, he's media savvy, does really good top end interviews, he's not a bad looking bloke so my wife tells me, so I don't know what Fram's problem is either Graham. Fram Autolite are paying the bils though so I guess if they say 'Jump', Schumacher has to say 'How high?'

Found this old article on the Competition Plus website:

Competition Plus said:
"Gray deserves to take a breather from the cutthroat, government-badgered world of the oil and gas industry. He has earned the right to enjoy the profit he and his sister made July 19 from selling the assets of their Marbob Energy Corporation to Midland, Texas-based Concho Resources for, according to the Roswell (N.M.) Daily Record newspaper, $1.65 billion, including $1.45 billion up front."
yikes

By my reckoning, that's $700m, plus some loose change, burning a hole in his back pocket

Old man Schu must be thinking "ah what the heck we can live without two cars in the top three if he's got that much cash on the hip" laugh

Dunno about that Tet, I'll tell you what though, if I were Schu I'd employ an unlicensed wannabe if he/she was bringing that amount of folding stuff with him/her ! biggrin

how come everyone is writing off johnny gray ,
Given the car why is it assumed he wont make the best of it,
Hes hardly a novice He has more drag racing experience than any driver in europe,
Hes not exactly ancient to the point youd have to question his health or reactions,
yes hes loaded and has no doubt brought the ride, does that make him a wannabee?
The fact that we all know who he is shows that he "already is"!
To me it makes more sence to buy a top class ride than enter as privateer like Head and Wilkerson do,

as for Rune and Risto.......if i was Risto id be prety pissed at that "application of logic",

Motorsport history is littered with people who had access to good personal funding but were also where they were on merit. Good examples are Mike Hailwood, Peter Revson, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, to name 4. Motor Racing was very middle class up to the 70's, bikes less so. The difficulty being the ability to get on the ladder in the first place. Drag racing is far more grass roots and nothing like as expensive to get a foot on the sportsman ladder.

IMO it is disrespectful linking the American situation to Risto, who from what i can see has always been a pretty decent racer with an attitude and committment which benefits the sport.

Really? I see them as exactly the same, and don't see any disrespect there. They're both able drivers who just happen to be bringing a large amount of cash with them. Johnny Gray finished 10th in the NHRA and Risto finished 2nd in the FIA championship. A large wallet only gets you so far, and both drivers have proved themselves on the track.
