Ruf RT 12 R Revealed At Geneva

730hp and carbon fibre goodies for 'spartanic' 'Ring warrior

This is the new RUF RT 12 R, a track-focused version of RUF’s ultimate 911-based model on show at Geneva this week.

The RT 12 (for 12th generation of RUF-tuned 911 Turbos) has received a power boost for the R model, taking its output to 730hp and torque to 693lb ft. The car receives a prominent rear wing similar to the one fitted to the GT3 RSR race car, and also gets a carbon fibre bonnet and front bumper. Inside, a new grade of steel has been used for the integral roll cage – saving 8kg – and the interior is stripped of luxuries.

According to Alois Ruf this makes the car ‘spartanic’ which we think we like the sound of, and most suitable to fast lappery at the ‘Ring.

The RT 12 is also available in ‘S’ tune, with 620hp and 605lb ft of torque, and with the option of a PDK gearbox as well as the 6-speed manual.

Also on the Ruf stand is the CTR3 mid-engined supercar (half in shot...), the 8-pot 911 (the RGT-8) and the E-Ruf with retro Targa body.

Is 730 bhp enough for a RUF when the 'standard' GT2RS has 620bhp?

I'm sure it's more than plenty in reality but RUF seem to be falling behind other tuners (I know they are a tuv approved manufacturer before anyone says anything) such as 9FF are pushing 1200 bhp plus...

Come on PH, most of the photo's from this show have been pretty poor IMO. Where's the detail shots, the profile/back/front etc etc. It'd be nice to hear and see the other cars on the stand too, particularly these RUF cars.

To be fair, getting decent clear shots of cars during press days is a mare - more so when you've got umpteen halls to cover.

Of course, there's always the rest of the internet out there if something takes your fancy for additional pics/info wink

It isn't all about power. 90% of the 9FF cars are a we to drive and would get absolutely schooled on a track by RUF machinery.

MP4-12C

It crushes even the CTR3 in all but top end

Cant wait to see MP4-12C ring times.

Saying that i'd like a Ruf 3400K Cayman, lightened ;o)

One fast motor then.
I'd (probably) have a fettled GT3 myself, as opposed to tuned turbo monster

Do these depreciate some?

I'd like to hear more about the V8 they have done for the RGT. 550bhp from 4500cc and over 8000 rpm sounds like Ferrari 458 territory; it's supposed to be lighter too. I am surprised we have not heard more about this.

I'm worried about RUF, they seem to have got distracted by electric cars and other tuners, such as 9ff as mentioned above, seem to be getting all the column inches. That's a shame because they are very well rounded in both performance and handling. Michelin's own tyre testers rate them above most other tuners.

Is it just me. I was a little perturbed by this response from Stig. Petulance came to mind. I assume perhaps incorrectly that Stig is a contributer. Surely the whole point of PH is to be the focal point for all matters motoring and suggesting the poster goes elsewhere is a bit of a childish response.

I'm confused. RUF website says the RT12 S has 685bhp, not 620.

He's right you know. With one day and one snapper the details are hard to get. More time is spent on some cars, while others are quick and dirty.
