Obviously not ! It is an interesting one though. Maybe an email to ebay suggesting that they might want to look into it ?

It seems to me that he only reason someone would want a Cossie v5 is so that they can fake up an ordinary Escort, and flog it to some poor sap purporting to be a real Cossie, mind you they'd have to be half blind not to be able to tell the difference, but it is still illegal. Ebay must have a system to report things that you think are illegal. I think I might report it as well.

By law the Reg Doc should have gone with the shell when it was sold.

This is what the authorities want to stamp out under the Vehicles Crime Act 2001.

Doesn't the word barge pole come to mind???

Edit for spelling

I'm just amazed at the number of bidders and current price! What on earth would you do with it once you've got it?

Stupid Numpties ! It isn't the vehicle that may be stolen, it is the V5. I made that perfectly clear. I also reported it via the stolen property link, so why are thay asking me to report it again ? Needless to say I have replied to the stupid email in no uncertain terms, and we will see what they come back with

Dear Ebay

It’s not the vehicle being stolen , have you read my email properly ?
It is that the Vehicle REGISTRATION DOCUMENT which is being auctioned that may be stolen, and in any case it is a criminal offence to offer this document for sale WITHOUT the Vehicle it relates to.
I also thought I had reported it via the Stolen goods page, why would I need to report it again ? Surely you have enough to go on now ?
Hope that clears it up
Regards,

Gareth

This is definitely a prohibited item under the rules of ebay. It should not even be listed, stolen or not ...

gshughes,

That's just a proformer email reply that you got back which is why it appears t ocompletely miss the point of your original email.

Likely someone may get back witha personal touch later.

You can also try calling them, I once let a mate buy something using my credit card, somehow the number got attached to his account and ebay kept billing my card for his selling fees.

Phone call soon sorted all that out.

I comment below upon the potential prohibition from listing the item.

I presume you are referring to one of the top four bulleted points. Vis:

ebay policy said:
* Items that claim to be, or to look similar to, official government identification documents or licenses, such as birth certificates, drivers licences or passports. Further, completed applications for such documents containing personal information may not be listed.
This appears (at least from the examples given) to refer to documents for the identification of a natural person. The V5 is not one of those, neither is it a "completed application for such documents". However, this appears to be the only possible candidate for excluding the listing of the item under ebay's policy, but I feel it is weak.

ebay policy said:
* Current vehicle licence plates, or plates that claim to resemble such current licences. ...
The V5 is not a "licence plate".

ebay policy said:
* Any item that is primarily used to alter identification documents, licences or plates.
The V5 does not fall into this category either.

e-bay policy said:
* Fake identification cards, or any items that are designed for the manufacturer of such cards.
The V5 is not a "fake".

On the basis of the posted policies, I can't see that the offer for sale of a V5 is prohibited by ebay.

I do find it strange that ebay's policy does not specifically include words to the effect that, "Any item offered for sale in a country where the offer for sale is itself illegal or where it is illegal to possess the item offered for sale, and any item offered for sale to a country where the purchase and/or possession of the item is illegal."

Logbooks on ebay in general.

I got hopping about this as I am a serious mini enthusiast and there are a lot of V5 modded cars/documents and other pathogenic varients. It makes me mad as it damages the stock of genuine vehicles. Also appearing totally legal..........

I emailed DVLA and said that I was hopping about the infringement of government rules outlined on the back of their documents and ebay were soliciting this. Potentially adding up to Tax Evasion, facilitating the theft of cars, and just selling government property in general! In my letter, I outlined that ebay had been told on many occasions by myself and others and were fully aware of the legalities involved in the sale/soliciting of these documents. So there is no excuse for ignorance on ebays half. I demanded that ebay sort this out pronto and said I would be contacting DVLA, which I did. I also asked if it would be possible to recieve feedback on the matter from DVLA (so they don't just ignore it).

I assume talking to customs, police men (in the pub) that this matter is extremely significant and of the highest priority.

So far neither party have done anything about it. I assume that DVLA are on the case but ebay have sidestepped with the smallprint. It seems that the British Government cannot enforce this (fight it's way out of a wet paper bag).

It's wrong and a lot of fellow enthusiasts have to overcome a nasty lesson before learning what the subtle difference between say a Mini Cooper and an "S" is. (Apart from well over £2000)
