Plugged in 996TT and the following fault codes are stored: 507 (Misfire detection). 513,511,512 (Misfire Cylinder 6, 4 & 5).

The engine management light flashes up now and then and resets once engine restarted. The correct fuel is being used (Super unleaded).

Car appears to be running really well.

Just wondered if anyone on here may be able to point in the right direction as regard to possible fault/remedy? Camshaft sensor? Air mass Sensor?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

How does the car drive off boost? can you coax the light to come on at light throttle around 2700 to 2900 rpm? Is it a bit jerky at these reve ranges, but then fine when coming on boost?

Off Boost it's a little lumpy at lower revs (1800-2500 RPM held in 3rd gear). On Boost it's perfect and smooth. I can't force the EML to come on. Other codes just logged after 10 mile run: P1371 Valve lift control checksum error, P1359,P1361,P1363: Valve lift control Cylinders 1,2,3 (above limit), P0040 Oxygen Sensor Ahead Of Catalytic Converter (Signal implausible (Only turbo). I'm thinking it may be a faulty Variable Camshaft Solenoid? Has anyone else has a similar problem like this?? Thanks again

Steve,

Take your car in. Get them to check the variocam actuator on that bank to make sure that the lifters are working. It sounds from what you have described as an issue with the Variocam Actuator on that bank of cylinders. Basically it is requesting to go to high lift and it is not happenning, hence the misfires and the code you get.

Hi Ken

Thanks for the feedback. I'll arrrange for a technician to check the variocam actuator on that bank. I'll update this post once the fault has been rectified.

Many thanks for your reply, Steve

They should of course check both sides etc. If you were just getting the misfires then it might be different but the checksum points to the fact that the DME is requesting to move to higher lift and not getting it.

The reason why you feel the car is running okay is how it controls the switch over. For the interested see explanation below.

You may of course find that its the bracket that holds the actuator in, around £10 for the bracket, and intercooler off to fit. That would be an easy win, but best get it checked out.

Thanks. Yes a technician I use already suggested a broken bracket - he's done a few with these brackets broken. I'll buy both the bracket and the Valve lift solenoid and keep my fingers crossed smile

Haha.

May I suggest something more assertive?

Sounds like you need new Coil Packs and maybe Oxy Sensors that should cure it..
Not a massive amount of money in parts.

FAULT RECTIFIED FOR £12 (PARTS) + 1 HOURS LABOUR! INDEED THE VALVE ACTUATOR / TAPPET SOLENOID BRACKET WAS BROKEN THEREFORE THE VALVE ACTUATOR / TS WAS OUT OF POSITION AND THE REASON WHY NUMEROUS FAULT CODES WERE BEING LOGGED! THE NEW BRACKET WAS FITTED IN SITU WITHOUT REMOVAL OF THE INTERCOOLER. PLUGGED IN DIAGNOSTICS AFTER A 50 MILE RUN AND ALL OK. THE VALVE ACTUATOR I PURCHASED WILL BE GOING BACK IN THE MORNING. THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS. smile
