STaSIS-Tweaked Audi R8 V10 Heads To UK

Fancy 710bhp for your R8? Course you do...

Ordinarily when we present you with a mega-power conversion for an already powerful performance car, it is with a tinge of frustration, because generally these beasts aren't officially imported into the UK.

This time, however, it's a little different, because this car, the Audi R8 V10 Challenge Extreme Edition (yes, we know they could have come up with a better name) is being officially launched onto the UK market by American VW group machinery tweakers STaSIS Engineering.

Designed presumably for those who feel that 525bhp is not enough for their V10 R8, the R8 V10 Challenge Extreme Edition offers 710bhp and 523lb ft of torque courtesy of a supercharger, while various brake, suspension and wheel upgrades help to keep it all on the road.

If you want to turn your R8 V10 into a STaSIS-tuned version, it can be done at APS in Brackley, and will cost you from £45k fitted, including VAT. For that you will get the following tweakery:

Engine - Eaton / Magnuson TVS 2300 supercharger running 7.5 psi of boost, independent charge cooler system to ensure consistent high power output, CNC billet alloy machined intake plenum for durability and strength, high performance STaSIS ECU remap - performance increases to 710bhp and 523lb.ft of torque

Exhaust - 3.0 inch TIG welded stainless steel, cross-flow exhaust system

Brakes - Alcon 390mm front / 355mm rear with two piece floating discs

Suspension - Lowering springs to improve handling and give a more aggressive appearance while retaining ride quality

Wheels - 9.5 x 20 inch ultra-lightweight forged aluminium front, 12 x 20 inch forged aluminium rear with high performance low profile tyres

STaSIS Audi R8 V10 Challenge Extreme Edition Performance Specification:-

Factory Audi R8 V10  STaSIS Audi R8 V10 Challenge Extreme Edition
Power:  525 bhp  710 bhp
Torque:  391 lb.ft  523 lb.ft
0-60 mph: 3.7 sec   3.1 sec
Lateral accel’: 0.99 G 1.01 G
Brake decel’: 1.02 G 1.05 G

Now THAT is how you tune a car.

Wheels which actually look better than the originals, and a truck load more power, with brake and suspension upgrades to match.

Looks almost standard, but with a hint of what more is underneath.

Like.

I still don't think it's attractive.

As much as I like a lot of tuned cars that others don't, I have to agree with the above and say that it is refreshing to see some proper tuning with some proper power gains rather than a stupid bodykit and a garish colour scheme

Impressive stats!

Seems like the kind of subtle but definite improvements that might actually mature into some kind of value-holding 'enhanced' version (think Koenig Testarossa) rather than a tacky sheikh-mobile (think Mansory anything...)

I like it.

When did various G-force figures become part of a car's 'vital stats'?

At least this looks almost standard, if they would just lose those wheels it would be ok. Still I would never modify a car like the R8.

They should really mention the tyres used for the tests too. Did they just fit better Mu stuff for the tuned car?

Really like, would be better if it looked 100% standard, but still a smart and not too OTT R8.

Having tracked the R8 V10 recently, I would imagine an extra 185bhp and 132 torques would make things very exciting.

I guess if you have a face like Gaddafi you need to know whether bits of it will be hitting the dashboard.

Hey, while I partly agree...if it's THAT easy why don't you start your own STaSIS-clone and sell the same kit for £25k. You're not factoring in the 'testing' and 'R&D' costs.

Anyway, all this kit does is turn a worthy daily driver into something you can really only exploit on a track. A decent real world comparison (at least one we can better understand) would be to put this round the 'ring along with the standard car.

Or the costs of sorting out a buggered Audi V10 under potential warrantee claims...

^ Isn't it a bad idea to run a staggered setup on a 4wd system?

Why? It's not as if they're different diameters. Only different widths. Do you think things like Lamborghinis and 4WD 911s have the same width tyres front-to-rear?
